Skin Foods

October 5, 2011 By: Bhumika

Skin Foods

Foods are very important for the skin. Some types of foods actually feed the skin too. We use all sorts of creams and lotions on our skin externally but it is extremely important for the skin to be healthy and glowing internally, and for that we need to take care of it from within too, feeding it with the right stuff. I, being a Vegetarian always had some problems as eggs and sea food were out of the list already.

Here is a list of some foods which are very important for a healthy skin and can be had by anyone including vegetarians :

1.  Oranges and Amla: They are a great source of Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid which help in protecting  the skin from UV rays and other environmental factors and also help in making collagen which keeps the skin tight and supple.

2.   Berries: All the berries fall in these categories from strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, etc. These are an excellent source of anti-oxidants and would keep your skin younger looking and fresh for a long time to come. You can also add Pomegranate in that.

3.  Low fat dairy products: All dairy products from milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc are rich in Vitamin A. It keeps your eyes, skin and hair healthy, supple and moisturized. Dry flaky skin is a sign of its deficiency.

4.  Water: We know how important hydration for our body is. We need to drink 8-9 glasses of water daily. It will help cleanse your system of toxins and let nutrients move better.

5.  Almonds and Nuts: They are rich source of Vitamin E and would keep your skin moisturized and in shape. They would also protect your facial tissue from pre mature ageing.

6.  Flax Seeds and Sunflower seeds:  They contain essential fatty acids and Omega 3 fatty acids which are very much essential for the skin and body. A teaspoon of flax seeds is to be ideally consumed for shiny skin and hair.

7.  Red and Green Vegetables: All those colorful veggies also are rich in Vitamin A and Beta Carotene plus they also have anti oxidants.

8.  Whole grains: They are full of Vitamin B or Niacinmide which help in cell regeneration and replace old cells with new.

9.  Green Tea: Everyone knows the benefits of green tea. It is not only rich in antioxidants, helps increase metabolism, keeps your weight in check, repairs your skin and also helps in skin cancer. It also has anti inflammatory properties.

1   Pulses/Lentils: The Protein in Pulses helps your skin cells grow and nails become strong. It also helps in controlling hair fall.

11  Aloe Vera: Drinking Aloe Vera juice helps a lot in healing acne, purifying and clearing skin and blood, rashes, pigmentation, etc

Besides these, Sea Food and eggs are always the highest and richest source of most of the Vitamins and even important minerals like Selenium and Zinc which are very good for great skin and hair.

Do you feed your skin ??
