Home Remedies For Glowing Skin

HOME REMEDIES FOR GLOWING SKIN

By Rashmi

Hello peeps,

I am back with another DIY solution for your skin. Glowing skin is what everybody desires. People spend so much money by going to parlours. Though the effect of parlour treatment is almost immediate,is it long lasting? I don’t think so. I prefer using ingredients from the kitchen which are readily available. These are absolutely natural ingredients and are safe. And these things give a glow to your face like no other parlour treatment can give. And guess what? The results are permanent. When at first my mother asked me to use homemade face masks instead of going to the parlour i laughed at that but now after using all these homemade masks I am sure I am not going to the parlour for facials.

And I am sure these home remedies for glowing skin are going to work for you guys as well.

Happy reading ☺

1. Honey and lemon juice –

In a bowl take 2tbsp honey and mix in it 1tbsp lemon. Mix it well. Apply it on your face and leave it for 20 minutes.Wash it off with cold water. Lemon works as a natural bleach and honey gives instant radiance. One could also try applying just honey on the face. Honey and Lemon is perfect for removing your tan too.

2. Banana face mask-

In a bowl take half a banana(ripe),mix 1tbsp yogurt to it along with 1tbsp honey. Mix it well until the banana is mashed completely. You could add 2-3 drops of rosewater too. Now apply this face mask and leave it for 20-25 minutes before washing it off with water.Banana is best for getting glowing skin.

3. Tomato juice –

Simply mix tomato juice along with lemon and apply it on your face. Let it sit for 20minutes and then wash it off with plain water.Follow up with a good oil free moisturiser.

4. Olive oil or coconut oil-

People have this misconception that if they apply oil on their face, they will get pimples .This isn’t true. In fact either olive oil or coconut oil should be applied on the face for at least 10minutes before taking a shower. This is a really effective method to get that glow that you have always longed for.I follow this routine daily and this has worked effectively for me.

5. Potato and lemon juice-

Take the juice of half potato and mix in it about 1tbsp lemon juice. Apply this on your face daily for a week and you will be able to notice a beautiful glow on your face. Rub this mixture on your elbows too to get rid of dark elbows. This mix when used continuously for a week, will help get rid of all that stubborn tan.

6. Papaya face mask-

In a bowl take papaya and mash it well. Mix in it about 1tbsp honey, 1/2 tsp turmeric (you don’t want to be left with a yellow face instead of a glowing one) and 1tsp honey. Mix all the ingredients well and apply this on your face for 20 minutes and then wash it off. Apply rosewater on your face after that.

7. Milk and lemon-

Mix milk and lemon together. The milk should be unboiled. Apply this and you would get a radiant skin within a week. Milk helps to moisturise your skin and lemon helps in bleaching the skin naturally thus causing no side effect.

Additional tips-

1. For people with dry skin mix glycerine and rosewater and apply it on your face daily.

2. For people with oily skin mix gram flour(besan) with rosewater and apply daily. Alternatively fuller’s earth could also be used.

3. Apply aloe vera on your face daily .

4. Exfoliate your skin at least twice a week to get rid off the dead skin cells.

5. Always keep your skin hydrated and moisturised.

6. Always remove your makeup before going to sleep and apply your night cream.

7. Rub an ice cube on your face for an instant glow.

How To Unclog Facial Pores Naturally

How To Unclog Facial Pores Naturally

By Somreeta

If you wish to keep pimples, blackheads and acne at bay, it is important for you to clear the clogged pores in your skin. Deep cleansing and exfoliation at regular intervals help in doing away with the dead skin cells, oil, dirt and impurities that clog the pores. Keep reading for the best tips and tricks to unclog facial skin pores naturally.

How To Unclog Facial Pores Naturally: Top 3 Tips

1. STEAMING: Steaming is one of the cheapest yet most effective natural treatments that help remove the dirt and grease that have accumulated in the pores of the skin. Heat water in a pot and cover it with a lid. As soon as the water starts producing steam, remove it from the source of heat and lean over the pot of steaming water, while covering your head with a towel. Make sure that the steam touches your face. For added benefits, add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the water. Steam your face for about 5 to 7 minutes. Whenever you feel that the steam is too hot for you to put up with, take a short break. After you are done with steaming your face, pat your skin dry and follow up with a toner and a mild non-comedogenic moisturizer. Steaming your face once a week is indeed a great practice.

2. EXFOLIATION: Exfoliate your skin to chuck out the impurities off the pores of your facial skin. Mix baking soda (2 tablespoons) with cinnamon powder (1 tablespoon) and honey (4 tablespoons). Add the juice of half-a-lemon to the mixture and apply the concoction on your face. Rinse with water after 5 minutes. Baking soda is an excellent exfoliating agent that is gentle on the skin and helps unplug clogged pores. If you are not comfortable using baking soda and lemon juice on skin, you can try out the honey-sugar scrub recipe. Mix 4 tablespoons of green tea with honey and sugar, a tablespoon each. Scrub your face with this homemade scrub and wash off with water. Follow up with a mild moisturizer.

3. APPLICATION OF CLAY MASKS: Clay masks are known to draw out the oil and grease from the skin pores efficiently. Mix bentonite clay, oatmeal powder and water, one tablespoon each. Apply this clay mask on your face. Once it dries up, rinse thoroughly with water. Follow up with a good quality moisturizer to prevent dryness.

A weekly skincare regimen, consisting of steaming, cleansing, scrubbing, toning and moisturizing could go a long way in preventing clogged pores. Unclog your facial pores naturally and keep your skin smooth and glowing, always!

Editor’s Note: Totally believe in all three, while steaming doesn’t happen always. Even a warm muslin cloth works at times. And clay masks are so amazing to pull out the dirt and perfect for oily skin to keep oil at bay.

Do you follow these tips regularly?

Dr. Jamuna Pai of Blush Clinics shares essential tips and quick fixes

DR. JAMUNA PAI OF BLUSH CLINICS SHARES ESSENTIAL TIPS AND QUICK FIXES TO GET A RADIANT GLOW FOR THE PARTY SEASON

P.S: I don’t generally publish press releases unless I feel it is helpful and informative. This I felt was. 2-3 tips is what I myself loved and surely going to try out. Hope it helps some of you.

Skincare and grooming expert, cosmetic physician, Dr. Jamuna Pai of Blush Clinics is sharing essential tips and quick fixes to get a radiant glow for the winter party season.

Providing state of the art facilities for the first time in India to its clients, Blush Clinics by Dr. Jamuna Pai became an instant success right since its inception. The pioneering spirit in educating the layman about the various services and technology that cater to skincare has been their claim to fame.

Try these quick fix tips shared by the expert to avoid some minor beauty mishaps, from ruining the party fun.

HOME REMEDIES:

1) Dark circles: To conceal the dark circles quickly make a paste of 1 tsp milk powder, 1⁄2 tsp curd, 2 drops of lemon juice and 2 drops of honey. Apply the paste on the dark circles. Wait for 10- 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water.

2) Puffiness around the eyes : The major reasons for puffiness around the eyes are fluid retention, inadequate sleep, allergies and of course heredity. But it can be reduced considerably. As a quick fix for it wrap an ice cube in a soft cloth and apply to the under eye area for 5 minutes to reduce the swelling. You will see an immediate improvement. The other things that help in reducing the swelling are chilled gel masks, cucumber slices and cool damp cloth.

3) Dry lips: Put a thin film of moisturizer before applying the gloss. And apply a thick coat of gloss to hide the chapped lips.

4) Frizzy hair: Before washing your hair apply coconut milk, made from fresh grated coconut and leave it on your hair for 2 hours. This acts as a conditioner. Oiling the hair often also helps in making the hair less frizzy. Use anti- frizz serum on the hair just before you leave home.

5) Open pores or to tighten the skin: Use 2 egg whites. Whisk them till you get peaks. Add 2 drops of honey to this and spread over face and neck. Leave it on for 20 minutes and wash it off.

6) Ageing hands: Remember to use a thin film of a foundation or concealer on the hands after doing your face. Hands always give the age.

7) Dry skin on the hands, around the nail cuticles and feet: Dry skin is a condition where skin loses its oiliness and it can be because of soaps, weather , heredity etc. It is very important to take care of the dryness because it can turn into deep cuts and hurt especially on the heels. The quick fix that you can try is mixing some milk cream with honey and massage for 20 minutes on all the dry areas. And after massaging wash it off with a mild soap.

MEDICAL QUICK FIXES:

Before we begin, do remember to only visit a trained and experienced doctor. It is of utmost importance that the medical practioner that you choose be well trained and adept in his/her field of work.

1) Acne scars: Under the advice of a doctor a mild microdermabrasion (skin polishing) or a very mild lactic acid peel done just once can lighten the marks. The marks can then be concealed with a concealer. Always use a concealer which is water resistant.

2) Brittle nails: If you have brittle or short nails you can experiment with acrylic nails or gel nails.

3) Fillers: A little dermal ( skin) filler in the laugh lines and the droop of the mouth will freshen it immediately giving you a much younger look.

4) Botox: Again by a trained doctor, does wonders in eliminating lines and freshening your looks.

5) Skin Boosters: Skin boosters like Restylane Vital work wonders in nourishing and hydrating tired, parched skin from within. It also minimizes the effects of photo damage. It is a clear gel that is injected just under the skin in small quantities to help it regain any lost volume, moisture and structure.

6) Skin tightening: Treatments like thermage ( heat being used to repair collagen and promote its growth). Non- surgical facelifts also show instant results.

7) Peels : Certain non- peeling peels like lactic acid peel give a fresh look in no time and as they are non-peeling they do not require any downtime either.

8) Microdermabrasion ( skin polishing) : Helps in removing dead skin cells and minimizing pore size.

9) In case of a sudden break out of small pimples or rash post a treatment or waxing– Don’t panic. Use a soothing lotion like calamine. If the rash has no pus, use desonide lotion on it just for one night. Take an allergy tablet like Allegra once a day. If there is pus in the pimple, use a dot of ‘multani mitti’ (fuller’s earth) on it overnight.

Skin care for 40 + people during winters

Skin care for 40 + people during winters

Dr. Ranjan Upadhyay, Dermatologist, Desmoderm Skin Clinic, Delhi, writes about the special needs of skin in people over 40

As they say age brings wisdom and bliss. But this wisdom never comes without some unwanted wrinkles, fine lines and signs of ageing. If you have lived over four decades, you have certainly gone through some ravages of time and environment. Once you hit your 40s, you can no longer bank on your youthful beauty. In absolute terms, however, beauty is not a variant of age. You might be a little less radiant and a little less smooth than you were ten years back, but beautiful you can still be.

As we age, so does our skin. After a certain point of time, your skin will not produce enough natural oil to keep your dermis hydrated and supple. It will also experience a decrease in production of collagen and elastin, the two proteins responsible for firmness in younger skin. The reserves of hyaluronic acid, the natural water binding element in the skin also decreases, leading to a more dry and dull looking skin that carries fine lines and wrinkles.

While a number of factors are responsible for causing skin changes over the years including genetic and related to nutrition, sun exposure is one of the most prominent causes. So is loss of moisture from the skin.

During winter the major skin issue we face is that of dryness and loss of moisture. Cracked lips, heals and dry skin is a major problem. Every time you wash your hands or face, you feel extreme dryness. All these characteristics increase as we age. At 25 you might be able to carry on a day without a moisturizer but at 40 you certainly cannot.

Hence while basic skincare requirements in the winter season remain largely the same, revolving most of the time around the need for moisturizing, for people in their 40s they are a little more pronounced and need to be combined with some anti ageing practices and products.

A good routine of moisturizing and hydrating is required. You can also do well by going in for a session with Restylane Vital skinboosters, a hyaluronic acid based gel that when injected into the upper layers of the skin, deeply hydrates and nourishes it.

Let’s have a look at the required skincare practices:

Cleansing, toning, moisturizing and sunblock:

These are certain basic skincare elements that need to be a part of your daily lives no matter what your age is. Cleansing and toning help you protect your skin against the daily ravages of pollution and dust. They help keep your pores clean. In winters especially when you wear thick moisturizers the need for cleansing is all the more. It is very important to keep your skin hydrated. However, if you have oily skin, you better use water based moisturizer rather than cream based. Equally important is wearing a Sunblock with 30 SPF at least. It is a misconception that you do not need to wear a sunblock under a winter sun. Moreover the sunblock has to be reapplied every 3-4 hours as it loses its impact in this time. Sunblock also protects against pigmentation, a phenomenon which is very common in older skin.

Night creams’ applications are quite important for people in this age bracket as they help the skin remain firmer and toned.

The needs for the neck, hands and heals?
Normally we all take care of our faces, but seldom do we pay similar attention to the neck and hands. Unsurprisingly, these areas become the biggest giveaways of your age. In winters, the skin in these areas is dry, flaky and scaly. Make sure your daily skincare regime is extended beyond your face to include your neck and hands. This includes cleaning, toning, moisturizing and sunscreen. Every time you wash your hands, make sure you apply a moisturizer. If you are washing clothes, make sure you wear gloves so as not to expose your hands to the ravages of the detergent and water.

Cracked heals are another area that becomes problematic in this age, particularly in winters. Keep a foot cream at hand and use it daily before going to bed. It will help keep the feet smooth and beautiful.

Hydrating masks: Winters is a time when we extensively use central heating systems that can suck up all the indoor moisture and cause sensitive skin to be dry and rashy. To undo the effects of dryness, some hydrating face masks can have valuable results. Honey based face packs, milk cream, banana pulp as well as yoghurt  can be applied on the skin as hydrating face masks. Apply these items on the skin in an even spread and leave for 15-20 minutes before you wash them off. These hydrating items have a softening effect that makes skin supple.

Replenishing Hyaluronic Acid cosmetically can enrich the skin during winters
Today, skincare products and procedures are based on scientific knowledge. Through extensive research, experts today know the reasons why skin ages and why its need for hydration increases with age. Hyaluronic acid is an important component of the skin and helps keep the levels of hydration in the dermis as being a hydrophilic substance it binds water. However, with age, our skin’s natural reserves of hyaluronic acid diminish and hence the skin starts appearing dull and dry.

Restylane Vital Skinboosters is a new age therapy that moisturizes the skin from within and replenishes the lost reserves of moisture as it is a hyaluronic acid based product. Using microinjections, stabilized hyaluronic acid gel is implanted into the outer layers of the skin and works naturally to hydrate the skin from within.  This not only makes the skin look more youthful by filling up the finer lines on the outer layers of the skin, but also plays a crucial role in hydrating the skin and in a way taking care of its need for moisture that is so needed in winters.

Vitamins are important as we age Vitamins are crucial in fighting oxidative stress that is a normal part of ageing. As winters approach, it would do well to increase your vitamin intake. Make sure citrus fruits are a part of your diet, so are vegetables. Topical application of vitamin C as available in serums is also very effective.

Release stress and exercise– If you have to look good, you should look good from inside out. Regular routine of exercise or including yoga in your life helps release stress and helps make your skin beautiful and youthful. It also builds immunity.

Winter and Skin Damage

Winter and skin damage

As winter is setting in, listen to the cues that your skin is subtly giving you.  Winds and cold weather are just as damaging to skin as over exposure to the sun. Before turning on the geyser, think of the effect of the relaxing warm shower on your skin; before sipping that hot cup of coffee, think of the effect it may have on your skin; before using a blower to keep you warm, think of how dry it is making your skin.

Fight skin damage this winter. Use a rich moisturiser for your face and a super hydrating and moisturising body lotion. Depending on how dry your skin becomes, you may need a more emollient moisturizer. Any moisturizer should be loaded with ingredients that help keep moisture in your skin (glycerin, ceramides, fatty acids, and hyaluronic acid are just a few examples)

Added benefits like Vitamin E in your body lotion are a bonus. See to it that there is no dryness or flakiness in your skin..which can lead to itching, redness, stretchy skin..

How would you check if your skin is thoroughly moisturised ? If you run your nail gently on your skin and you see a white line, your skin is dry. And applying a moisturiser once a day would not help if its very dry. You need to reapply whenever you feel its getting dry again.

Most important thing..do not skip a sunscreen thinking its winter..sunscreen is very important. Read why HERE and HERE

Read about ten different DIY face packs you can use this winter HERE.

Applying and reapplying a lip balm for your tender, delicate lips which get affected first in winters. (Atleast mine does.)

Tip: Applying moisturiser right after shower, when your skin is damp, would help absorb it faster, deeper, better.

11 Simple Travel Makeup And Skin Care Tips

11 Simple Travel Makeup And Skin Care Tips

Guest Post by Chetana

I’m sure we all love travelling to get a much needed break from the monotonous and hectic life. Looking good and beautiful can be quite challenging while travelling, as it can be quite stressful, whether you’re covering a short distance or jetting halfway around the world. This article helps you to look beautiful and fresh even while travelling. With these helpful tips, you can face your next vacation, business trip or a family homecoming with utmost confidence.

Makeup and Skin Care Tips:

1. It is very important to moisturize your face well before travelling. Apply an intense moisturizer a night before the trip. This keeps your skin well hydrated while facing the dehydrating elements like cabin pressure. Apply a gel based moisturizer instead of cream based moisturizer, before heading for the journey to avoid your skin from getting oily.

2. Skip the foundation. It is important to let your skin breath while travelling. Most importantly, you wouldn’t want makeup dripping from your face before landing or reaching your destination. You must have noticed that celebrities often opt for a complete no makeup look while travelling. You can wear a tinted moisturizer if you want. Carry a facial mist with yourself to freshen up the face.

3. Apply waterproof gel based eyeliner or pencil liner on the lids and avoid applying kohl as they might smudge while travelling.

4. Skip long lasting lipsticks. They might sound appealing for a long journey, but they dry out and leave the lips parched and dehydrated.  Lip stain is a better option than long lasting lipsticks. Layer your lips with several coats of lip stains, let it dry and then top it with a clear gloss. This will keep the lip moisturized and provides a colour at the same. Reapply the gloss for a freshly applied look. Or, you can also apply a lip treatment or lip butter during the journey to keep the lips hydrated.

5. Watching back to back movies on a long flight or constant reading can leave you with watery eyes. Carry eye drops with yourself to lubricate or soothe the eyes while watching movies or to refresh your eyes after waking up from a nap. Or carry pre moistened eye pads or gel eye masks to soothe and refresh eyes during flight.

6. Avoid wearing mascara for a long journey. It will leave you with panda eyes or trail down the cheeks after waking up from a sleep.

7. Carry some blotting papers or rice paper to blot excess oil from the skin. This way you can dab the shine and excess oil off your skin without striping off the moisture.

8. Avoid touching your face while travelling. Your hand attracts a lot of unknown bacteria while travelling which can lead to breakouts and other skin problems, even if you touch your face unknowingly. If you want to touch up while travelling, then wash your hands with an antibacterial soap before touching the face.

9. Skip bright nail paints while travelling and stick to neutral and nude nail paint shades, as bright nail paints chip easily. Nude nail paints do not chip much and even if they do, they are less likely to get detected when you’re wearing nude hue nail paint.

10. Apply a soft, peachy shade of blush to get a nice flushed looks. Avoid bright pink or red shades of blush and avoid applying eye shadow completely.

11. Apply a hand cream liberally throughout the trip to prevent your hands from drying out.

Makeup and Skin Care Essentials:

a. Invest in a travel or skin care kit to keep you skin in check and hydrated while travelling. Avoid washing your face and hands with hotel soap.

b. Face wipes are an absolute essential while travelling. It is extremely handy especially while travelling in buses where you don’t have a sink nearby. Facial wipes are extremely important in clearing the grime and dirt from your face.

c. You don’t need to lug around your entire vanity for regular touch ups. Carry a handy mini or travel makeup kit while travelling. An Inglot customized palette would be a good recommendation. You can store a blush pan, a powder pan and 3 round refill pans where you can store you eye shadow, lip colour and concealer.

d. Do not cram your makeup brushes into your luggage as it can leave you with bent bristles and broken handles. Even better, pack your brushes in a separate pencil case to avoid damage. There are travel makeup brushes available which you can stock for travelling purpose.

e. Carry your personal shower gel, shampoo and conditioner while travelling. All three of them are available in travel sizes so availability shouldn’t be a problem as such.

Four Yummy Homemade Body Scrubs

Four Yummy Homemade Body Scrubs
Many ingredients from your kitchen can be used to make yummy-smelling face, body, and foot scrubs at home. Start with a skin-friendly exfoliant, such as oatmeal, cornmeal, sugar, or salt. Then choose a moisturizing, binding ingredient. I recommend honey and avocado, which are non irritating emollients, for the face. Olive or coconut oil will work well on the body and feet, especially on dry, scaly, or flaky skin.

However, if you tend to get breakouts on your chest or back, skip the oils and stick with honey or yogurt.

You can add other ingredients as well, such as fresh citrus juice (which acts as an astringent) or cucumber (which soothes skin). For a more aromatic scrub, add some fresh herbs or a few drops of skin-friendly essential oils. I love dessert, so I like cinnamon or vanilla in my scrubs — if you’re a chocoholic, try adding cocoa!

Below are a few recipes to get you started on your own scrubs:

Simple Cinnamon-Vanilla-Oatmeal Facial Scrub
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons honey
1 tablespoon plain yogurt

Cornmeal-Citrus Facial Scrub
1/4 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon fresh-squeezed citrus juice (lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit)
2 teaspoons honey
1 drop ylang-ylang essential oil (optional)
1 drop ginger essential oil (optional)

Avocado-Strawberry-Sugar Body Scrub
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup mashed avocado
1/4 cup mashed strawberry
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup minced fresh basil
1 drop rose essential oil (optional)

Rosemary, Mint & Salt Foot Scrub
1 cup coarse sea salt
5 tablespoons olive oil
3 sprigs fresh rosemary (remove leaves from stalk)
1 cup minced fresh mint
3 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)

Mix ingredients together and gently scrub your face, body, or feet. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Don’t they all sound so good enough to eat ! Yumm…the warm vanilla cinnamon..

Additionally you can scoop out a papaya or mango (or avocado) and save the fruit to eat later. Rub the inside surface of the skin all over your face and arms. The antioxidants and fruit enzymes will help soften your skin.

Kitchen Remedies for Clear Flawless Skin

Kitchen Remedies for Clear Flawless Skin
Don’t have the extra cash or time to spend on skin care? Fret not! Your kitchen is loaded with natural secrets for flawless skin.

Dry skin

“To nourish dry skin, you can simply use the olive oil you have in your kitchen, the same one used to prepare vinaigrette. Olive oil is really good, it will reinforce and nourish the skin and it helps regenerate and protect too. This is an oil you can use from head to toe. You just have to apply it on your body. In Morocco, women use Argan oil because it protects the skin from all weather conditions. It’s a country where it is very hot during the day but quite cold at night. This oil is going to soften your skin, in the same way that olive oil will.”

Oily skin

“Sometimes, you buy more food than you need but don’t throw things out straight away, you can use some food to create beauty products. If you have an avocado which is a little bit too ripe, transform it into a mask. To nourish your skin, just crush the avocado and put it on your face. During summer, when the sun is really hot, mix an avocado with egg yolk for a face mask because it gives more protection.

“If you have blackheads on your nose, use the skin of a banana. Rub it on your nose and it will make the blackheads pop out more easily. You just have to pick them afterwards, which will stop you getting a red nose and a scar!

Rice flour is another great natural beauty secret when you have oily skin. Everyone knows about rice papers, but they are quite expansive. If you have rice flour in your kitchen, you can make a mask with it. Mix the flour with yoghurt – one which isn’t too fatty – just to add a moisturising element. You can mix rice flour with a mashed up strawberry too, which helps exfoliate skin. And of course, you can add some clay to the mask, which is the perfect product for oily skin.”

The little tip for every skin type

“Everyone says that Chinese girls have beautiful skin, which is true. They’ve got a secret which many stars practice too. They use an egg white as a facial – they spread it on my face. Then let it dry until it looks like clear plastic and take it off with tepid water. It tightens the pores and gives a rejuvenating effect.”
