4 Things To Do As Soon As You Get Engaged

Recently engaged? Congrats! This is an exciting time and one that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. But once the initial thrill of the engagement starts to fade a bit and you’re back to reality, the first thing on your mind will probably be planning the wedding. It can be a little overwhelming to consider all the details that will go into such a major event, but with this guide, you can knock a few things off your to-do list right away. Here are the very first things to do once you’re engaged.

Spread the Word

One of the best parts about being engaged is spreading the word to your loved ones! Use phone, email, social media or even mailed announcements to share your big news.

Decide on a Budget

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s no minimum amount you need to spend on your celebrations. However, coming up with a budget is the number one priority before you continue with any other wedding planning. Talk to your partner about whether you’ll be able to pay for the wedding yourselves, or discuss possible contributions with your parents. Once you have a number in mind, you can continue with the rest of your planning while staying within your budget.

Research Vendor Options

Next up is vendor research. You’ll probably want to start with the type of venue you have in mind. Do you want something small and intimate, or a big wedding with hundreds of guests? That will help you determine the venue size you need to ensure that you can actually fit everyone in at the ceremony and reception. Beyond that, you can start scouting out photographers, DJs, caterers, florists, and other vendors that typically need to be booked well in advance. Find out each vendor’s pricing and availability as you pick your top options.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to start booking anything just yet. But knowing when the vendors you like are available will help you create a general timeline and think about potential wedding dates.

Think About Your Look

Most people want to look their very best on their wedding day. This makes a lot of sense considering you’ll likely have hundreds of photos taken of you in just a matter of hours! That’s why you shouldn’t hesitate to start thinking about fitness plans and cosmetic improvements as soon as you’re engaged.

If you want to start a fitness program or a new nutrition plan, now is the time. The sooner you start working on it, the better you’ll look come your wedding day. You can also consider other options, like Dr. Honrado’s THERMIlift treatment for repairing saggy or loose skin (great for looking toned after significant weight loss). Other options include spray tanning, teeth whitening, and facial treatments. Start planning ASAP to make sure you have time to get the results you want before your wedding day arrives.

Your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so it’s important to start your planning on the right foot. By following these four handy steps, you’ll kick off your engagement with a solid plan for budgeting, planning, and getting in shape.

How to decide upon Indian bridal Trousseau and Jewellery

How to decide upon Indian bridal trousseau and jewellery

A lot of effort goes in wedding preparations, especially in India. Apart from the event preparations, the bride takes extra effort to decide upon her wedding trousseau and the jewellery which she will wear on the wedding day.

Considering the wedding is once in a lifetime affair, people have known to go extra lengths to make it special and grand. Go through these guidelines and make the right decision when it comes to deciding upon the wedding jewellery and trousseau which match with each other quite well.

Jadtar (Kundan) Set

Wedding is a very special occasion that requires the bride to look not only very beautiful but best as well. An Indian wedding requires the bride to be dressed up in fine apparel and in the best of jewellery, usually made of precious metals such as gold, platinum, and silver and so on. Apart from this, the jewellery worn could be encrusted with precious and semi precious stones such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires to name the popular ones. Amongst the wedding preparations, shopping for the bridal trousseau and accessories does take up most of the effort and time.

How to decide on what to wear on your wedding day?

White Gold and Diamond Set

There are great deals of factors that need to be discussed when deciding the wedding attire. The attire has to match with the partner’s wedding dress and the wedding theme in general. Along with the cost factor, the time of the year and location of the wedding does seem important. If it’s a summer wedding, it would best to wear light wedding attire comprising of lightweight chiffons, georgettes, crepes and other flowing materials. In case of a winter wedding, the wedding attire could comprise of silks in varied varieties such as raw silk, tussar, pure silk along with heavy brocade borders and so on.

Similarly, the wedding trousseau gets influenced by the colours of the season. For instance, it’s the pastels and bright summer shades which are preferred during the summer while winter calls for rich colours with darker hues giving a feeling of coziness and warmth.

Consequently, the jewellery is determined, which gives a great final look to the bride. When deciding upon the jewellery, gold and diamond are extremely popular and preferred. In fact, gold jewellery is often given to the bride by her parents as well as those of the groom. Apart from that, Indian bridal jewellery also comprises of jewellery sets in regional themes such as Jadtar sets, Kundan sets, Thewa sets and so on.

Gone are the days when people used to visit a traditional jeweler or request a home visit from a traditional jeweler and spend hours together deciding upon the ornaments design and final look. Today, you can look forward to shop online for jewellery and placed a customised order as well. With a plethora of branded jewellery stores having an online presence, you can browse through the umpteen collections on offer before you shop for one.

If you have found a couple of ornament pieces of your liking, you could even request for a physical inspection of the same at a store located near to your residence. Also, check out on their customer service, exchange and return policy too. You also need to make sure they provide an accurate bill relating to your purchase mentioning the exact details of your piece of jewellery including the weight, purity and carat details of the metals and the precious stones used. At the same time, you can also ask for customer testimonials which could add more weight to their reputation too. On the overall, purchasing jewellery online is quite safe and reliable too.

I would suggest going for kundan or jadtar sets in yellow gold for the main wedding function if you are a Punjabi or a Gujurati bride, temple jewellery for something with raw silk sarees, etc. i.e. if you are a South Indian bride and the white gold and diamond sets for the reception/cocktail with a gown or an Ind0-western wear for everyone 🙂

The Dangers of Leaving a Child in a Hot Car Are Far Greater Than You Think

The Dangers of Leaving a Child in a Hot Car Are Far Greater Than You Think

Very few adults realize the extent to which a child is put in danger when left in a hot car. Many assume the child will be safe because the adult will be gone for a short time, or because the car is not hot at the time the adult leaves the child. Most would be surprised to hear that 38 children die from heat stroke each year, on average, after being left alone in a car, and that at least 44 died in 2013. According to Safe Kids USA, children are at far greater risk of heatstroke than adults, as their bodies heat up between three and five times faster than ours.

Though approximately thirty percent of the heatstroke deaths sustained by children occur when the child decided to play in a car and becomes locked inside, another twenty percent results from an adult’s conscious decision to leave a child in a car in the belief that the child will be safe from harm while the adult is gone for a short time. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), however, it takes no more than a few minutes for a car’s interior temperature to become high enough to be deadly to a child who has been left inside. This can occur even when the outdoor temperature is not particularly hot.

Who is responsible if your child is injured or killed by heatstroke while in a hot car? As is true with all questions of legal liability, the answer will depend on the circumstances of the particular case.

Legal Liability for Children’s Heatstroke Injuries and Deaths

Though some children’s heatstroke deaths result from an adult’s intent to harm or kill a child, most are due to the negligence of the adult who is caring for the child when the injury or death occurs. In other cases, the negligence of someone other than a caregiver may lead to the child’s injury or death.

Negligence of Caregivers

When someone takes on the responsibility of caring for a child, that person is charged with the duty to exercise reasonable care for the safety of the child while the child is under the person’s care. This duty is owed by babysitters, nannies, daycare-center employees, and even neighbors or relatives who agree to watch a child in the parents’ absence.

If a babysitter or other caregiver knowingly leaves a child in a car while shopping or engaging in other activities and the child is injured by heatstroke as a result, the caregiver may be found liable for the child’s injury in an action for negligence. If the child is killed as a result of heatstroke, the caregiver may be liable for the damages suffered by the child’s survivors through an action for wrongful death. Under most states’ laws, wrongful-death actions may be brought by the child’s immediate family members, such as the child’s parents and siblings.

In some cases, adults have accidentally left children in cars. The adult may have become distracted and forgotten that the child was in the car. When the adult is a babysitter or nanny who does not generally have a child along when the adult is driving, the adult is more likely to forget the child when exiting the car. This is particularly so when the child has fallen asleep.

Who is responsible when an adult accidentally leaves a child in a car and the child is injured or killed from heatstroke as a result? Under most states’ negligence laws, the adult may be found to have been negligent in forgetting the child who has been entrusted to that adult’s care. The failure to take precautions to ensure that a child will not be forgotten may be found to constitute a breach of the duty to exercise reasonable care for a child’s safety and result in the adult’s liability.

Negligence in Allowing Children Access to Cars

In many cases, a child is injured or killed by heatstroke when an adult has failed to lock a car and the child gains access to the car without the knowledge of the adult. The child may then become locked in the car, particularly if the car is equipped with child safety locks.

Is an adult who fails to lock a car responsible for injuries or deaths to children resulting from the child’s access to the car? Under most states’ negligence laws, the adult may be found liable for such injuries or deaths under certain circumstances. The failure to lock a car when the adult knew or should have known that children could gain access to the car may be found to constitute negligence on the part of the adult, even if the adult had not been entrusted with the care of the child who is injured or killed.

Do Not Underestimate the Dangers of Leaving a Child in a Car

Today’s writer, Jeffrey Killino, is a respected child-injury attorney who has dedicated his practice to keeping children safe and to holding individuals and entities whose negligence and defective products have injured or killed children responsible for their actions. He has achieved national recognition for his work in such cases on major television networks such as CNN, ABC FOX, and the Discovery Channel, including a case that led to an order compelling Mattel, Inc., to provide free lead testing to children who may have been exposed to lead-containing toys.

The Latest Vehicles Recalled by GM Can Catch Fire Even When Not in Use

The Latest Vehicles Recalled by GM Can Catch Fire Even When Not in Use

On August 8, 2014, GM was reported to have recalled 189,000 SUVs because of a defect in the vehicles’ power-window switches that can cause the SUVs to catch fire even when they are not in use. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), fluid, such as rain water, may enter the power-window switch module in one of these vehicles, causing corrosion and a short in the circuit board that can result in fire. This latest GM defect is reportedly so dangerous that GM has warned customers to park the vehicles outdoors rather than in garages until they can be repaired.

Though the recall was not issued until August 2014, NHTSA began investigating the problem in early 2012, after receiving complaints from consumers of fires erupting in the SUVs’ driver-side power-window switches. At least one complaint was filed as early as 2008 by a woman whose SUV burst into flames while the vehicle was turned off and parked in her driveway. According to reports, firefighters informed the woman that the fire had started in the driver’s door.

By August 2012, NHTSA and GM had reportedly received 242 complaints and reports of 28 fires, prompting an initial recall of 278,000 GM SUVs in cold-weather states. The remedy opted for by GM at the time of that recall was less costly than replacing the power-window switches. It also proved to be unsuccessful, as reports of fires continued even in vehicles that had received GM’s “fix.”

GM has promised to replace the defective switches in the SUVs subject to the 2014 recall, although replacement parts will not be available—at the earliest—until sometime in October. The affected vehicles include the Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 97-X, primarily from model years 2006 and 2007.

Consumers need to be aware that if fires can start in these vehicles even when they are not in use, they can also start while the vehicles are being driven. This defect, like so many vehicle defects, has the potential to cause traffic accidents, serious injuries, and wrongful deaths.

Legal Liability for Injuries and Deaths Caused by Defective Cars, SUVs, and Other Motor Vehicles

Who may be held responsible for injuries and deaths caused by defects such as the one that has prompted this latest GM recall? Can the manufacturer still be found liable for injuries or deaths caused by a defect in a vehicle if the vehicle has been recalled?

Though the questions of liability, causation, and damages in such cases can be extremely complex, most states’ laws will hold the manufacturer and others in the chain of a defective vehicle’s distribution liable for injuries or deaths caused by the vehicle’s defect. This is so even when the vehicle has been recalled.

Product-liability Law

The manufacturer and others in the chain of an SUV or other motor vehicle’s distribution may be found liable for such injuries or deaths under the product-liability law of most states. Though the law of product liability may vary somewhat from state to state, most states have enacted some form of the Model Uniform Product Liability Act (MUPLA) and will hold certain defendants liable for injuries or deaths caused by defects in the vehicle’s design or manufacture or the failure to warn of certain dangers associated with the vehicle’s use. With most products, defendants that may be found liable include the product’s designer, manufacturer, assembler, distributor, retailer, and others in the chain of distribution. When a product-liability case involves injuries or deaths caused by a car or other motor vehicle, however, some states relieve the retailers of such vehicles from liability for injuries or deaths caused by defects of which the retailer was unaware.

Product liability actions provide an advantage to plaintiffs over negligence actions, as these actions can be brought as strict liability claims, which relieve the plaintiff of proving negligence on the part of any of the defendants or even knowledge of the defect that led to the injuries or deaths. The plaintiff need only establish that the defect existed, that it was a cause of the injuries or death, and that the injuries or death resulted in legally compensable damages.

In other words, the defendants in a product liability case may be found liable without regard to fault or knowledge. Thus, the recall of a defective motor vehicle or other product before an injury or death occurred will not relieve the defendants from liability for injuries or deaths caused by the vehicle defect.

Wrongful Death Law

When a defect in a car or other motor vehicle results in someone’s death, the laws of most states allow the survivors of the decedent to recover damages suffered by the survivors as a result of the death through the institution of a wrongful death suit. The survivors allowed to bring a wrongful-death suit generally include immediate family members, such as the decedent’s spouse and children.

Protect Yourself by Taking Recalls Seriously

Today’s writer,  Jeff Killino, is the managing partner of The Killino Firm, P.C. and a respected litigation attorney with extensive experience with cases arising out of injuries or deaths caused by defective cars and other motor vehicles, and urges all consumers to take this and other recalls very seriously. Attorney Killino has achieved national recognition on major television networks, such as CNN, ABC FOX, and the Discovery Channel, for his dedication to holding vehicle manufacturers accountable for the injuries and deaths caused by their defective vehicles. His involvement in such cases includes a national product-liability action that resulted in the recall of 450,000 defective tires manufactured in China.

Selfie Epidemic and #TheUsProject

Selfie Epidemic and #TheUsProject

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Soffe. All opinions are 100% mine.

At the risk of coming across as totally uncool, here is a serious post.

So apparently there is a new psychological disorder in town, affecting everyone (including me, to some extent).

1 million selfies are taken everyday, as per Adweek. Wow, that is quite a lot. But the devil as always, lies in the details. 14% of selfies are digitally enhanced and 36% of the selfies are altered in some form or the other.

52% of women and 50% of men with smartphones have taken a selfie (So, at least I am not in the minority here :p)

Apart from the fact they are a sheer waste of time – 1 million selfies everyday means 1.8 billion minutes wasted every year. 😮

Surgeries to enhance the “photogenicity’ for selfie taking (as if we didn’t have enough of implants, silicon and enhancement surgeries), inferiority complex issues (Ohh!! Her selfie has more likes than mine!!!!), narcissism and a sure shot path to depression……. And yes, suicide cannot be ruled out either – (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/selfie-addict-took-two-hundred-3273819)

Wow, These are interesting times after all!!!!

Apparently, someone has had a Eureka moment and instead, visualized a world where selfies are all about friendships, relationships, being together and being happy. Check out the #TheUsProject movement.

Let’s change this social media platforms from a “Me” focus to an “Us” focus.

Oh… And btw, I hate to say this, but it is us women especially who are a victims of this trend, in search of compliments, shares, followers & likes. Time to grow up women. Less selfie, more selfless. 🙂

Soffe has a contest going on where you can share a pic with your closed ones on Instagram and tag me @bhumika_t using the hashtag #TheUsProject to win #TheUsProject Apparel.

Dresses For The Mother of the Bride
Guest Post
Dresses for the mother of the bride are a very important part of pulling together a wedding. While the wedding parties may be large or small, they cannot go on without the mother of the bride. The mother of the bride is the person who must look the most stately. This means that she should be in a dress that allows her to look her best without looking matronly. The best mother of the bride dresses are the dresses that allow the lady to look sleek and slim without making her look to flamboyant. Many times, this is a hard fit to make because there are not many dresses on the market that will help the mother of the bride look her best.
The bride who wants her mother to look her best at the wedding can learn more by investigating the best types of dresses for her mother to wear at the wedding. This could include long, draped dresses that are slightly fitted to shorter dresses that are not quite as fitted and everything in between. The combination of the right fit and length is what is going to the mother of the bride the best look possible when she is sitting at the wedding and all during the reception.
The best gowns for the mother of the bride also must give her a color scheme that is going to look nice with the theme for the wedding. Without this connection to the theme of the wedding, it is hard for the mother of the bride to fit in at the wedding, and it is very important for her to fit in when she is the person who is one of the most important people at the ceremony.
Also, the mother of the bride must be in a gown that allows her to look her age without making her look too old for her personal taste. Freshwater Pearls: Different Colours of Beauty

Freshwater Pearls: Different Colours of Beauty

Uniqueness and originality are the hottest ticket in the jewellery industry. Consumers love the choice of a range of colours to grace their bracelets, necklaces and earrings whether they contain shiny diamonds or elegant pearls.

The latest trends in jewellery

Freshwater pearls are the latest trend in pearl jewellery. Consumers will be glad to know that they come in a variety of different colours, meaning there’s something for everyone no matter what their style or sensibility. Here we take you through the beautiful differences in tone that these majestic freshwater pearls can display.

Colourful pearls

The colours of pearls vary in colour as much as the people who wear them, but freshwater pearls have the widest possible range of different colours, as well as different shapes. Throughout the history of this precious jewel there have been literally dozens of different naturally occurring colours found in freshwater pearls, all distinct and unique.

The main colour of a freshwater pearls body can vary between white, cream and coloured, but between these different classifications there are also multiple variations. Orange, yellow, pink and purple pearls can also be formed inside the shells of freshwater molluscs.

Although these variations are the most commonly found colours in freshwater pearl farming, they are by no means the only possibilities. Freshwater molluscs have the ability to produce a full spectrum of colours within their shells, with seemingly endless possibilities for what might be discovered in modern day pearl farming.

Optical illusions

Freshwater pearls are bestowed their famous shine by way of orient, which is an optical effect created when rainbows of colour beneath the surface of the pearls reflect light. These reflections provide an alluring shimmer effect when seen by the naked eye. This effect can be compared to the well known concept of light reflected by common soap bubbles, an effect created in much the same way.

This orient effect is found so often in freshwater pearls because of their unique composition, which comprises pure nacre. If freshwater pearls are subsequently dyed a pure black, the orient is enhanced and produces a darker pool of colour, very similar to the appearance of gasoline on a flat surface.

Freshwater pearls can also produce colourful overtones on their surface, which appear very differently to other types of pearls, and this depends on the quality of the jewel. Lower quality freshwater jewels typically have less of an overtone, whereas high quality pearls can produce rich overtones of rose, blue and brilliant green.

Where to find pearls

The rarity of some coloured freshwater pearls creates a market of luxury, although their decadence still remains more affordable than other types of pearls. Freshwater pearls are different than other types of pearls because they’re farmed in small rivers and lakes, as opposed to other varieties such as saltwater pearls which are found in larger bodies of water such as oceans.

Mantolin Pearls specialises in the finest range of freshwater pearl jewellery, exuding the brilliant shine and majestic elegance that it’s known for. Mantolin offers beautiful collections of pearl necklaces, bracelets and freshwater pearl earrings.

What does your graphic T-shirt say about you?

What does your graphic T-shirt say about you?

The design of graphic T-shirts has transcended over the years to an artistic level. This includes various style icons hitting headlines in addition to these shirts flying off the shelves. With their finger on the pulse of culture, and a powerhouse of vivid imagination, the world’s fashion designers have manufactured T-shirts over the years that have now become iconic.

The most iconic T-shirt designs are always the ones that strike a message. We guide you through the most famous prints in the business, and what they say about the people who wear them.

Che Guevara

Enersto ‘Che’ Guevara is one of the most well known revolutionary figures of all time. With a great mind for military theory, as well as a great political author, Guevara became a figurehead for the Cuban revolution and subsequently becoming an icon of rebellion worldwide.

Wearing this iconic T-shirt conveys an immediate statement of a status quo discontent. The style is synonymous with ‘living on the edge’ and anybody wearing this graphic T-shirt is accepts the representation of a free-thinking individual and an enthusiasm for radical living.

Wu Tang Clan

The Wu Tang clan are as much of a revolutionary behemoth in the music industry as they subsequently became in the fashion industry. East Coast rappers RZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killah and crew emerged onto the scene in 1992 and took the industry by storm with a slew of pull-no-punches hits that spoke their Shaolin style philosophy alongside their urban beats.

Wu Tang took flight as a fashion style not long after the group had found their feet in music, with the group’s logo becoming a loud statement across a midnight black background. Anybody choosing this apparel knows the value of good old-school urban music and the methods of showing such knowledge.

Ziggy Stardust

Perhaps one of the most prolific monikers of the 1980s, Ziggy Stardust personified everything David Bowie stood for during his fantastical career. Bowie took the lid off expressionism in pop music with hits such as ‘Life on Mars’ and most ironically ‘Fashion.’

With ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’, Bowie cemented the lightning bolt into fashion overnight much quicker than factories could produce it. It wasn’t long until Ziggy’s face was in demand across thousands of garments. In the modern day, any wearer of this iconic tee must at least slightly miss the 80s look and feel and is on a mission to keep the beat alive by exhibiting the face of one of music’s greatest artists to anyone that crosses their path.

Camouflage Tee

The camouflage style has evolved over the years in a different manner than other styles yet the core fashion statement has remained the same. Beginning with the iconic green, clashed with other greens and browns, the camouflage design has now grown into other vibrant colours making for strong, psychedelic fashion statements.

Anybody wearing this iconic style is prepared for anything. The camouflage print is bold and rarely goes unnoticed, so beware, this is a serious person wearing a serious shirt.

Whatever your personality or style, you can find a fantastic selection of graphic T-shirts at Seventyseven, who specialise in awesome graphic tees as well as the best range of urban streetwear.
