Sugar Cosmetics Contour De Force Palettes/Minis Review, Swatches + Giveaway

Hi guys,

Sugar Cosmetics is back with yet another launch, this time they have launched face palettes. It’s called Contour De Force Palette and has a bronzer, blush and a highlighter.

GET DISCOUNT USING ‘BTXSUGAR’ on https://in.sugarcosmetics.com

Palette 01 is called Subtle Summit and Palette 02 is called Vivid Victory, each of the shades in these palettes are sold individually too as minis i.e. mini bronzer/mini blush and mini highlight. (Buy HERE)

The quantity is the same i.e. 4g in both, palettes cost Rs.799/- and minis cost Rs.299/-. So palettes are more economical, also more travel friendly.

They have a cardboard packaging and it’s not super sturdy but won’t bend or break that easily too. The palettes come with a mirror.

The palette 01 has Blush 01 Peach Pink, Bronzer 01 Taupe Topper and highlighter 01 Champagne Champion.

01 Subtle Summit

Peach pink is a soft, peachy pink blush, Taupe Topper is a cool toned bronzer with gray undertone and the highlighter Champagne Champion is a muted champagne gold.

01 Subtle Summit

The Taupe Topper bronzer is more of a contouring powder than a bronzer and works really well. I loved it. The blush is very muted and would need layering to show up, more suitable for fair skin tones. The highlight is also very subtle and muted, it gives a soft glow suitable for day time, but it’s not like one of those blinding highlights. I personally prefer a stronger highlight though.

02 Vivid Victory

The palette 02 has Blush 02 Pink Pinnacle, Bronzer 02 Woody Wonder and highlighter 02 Gold Glory.

Pink Pinnacle is a deep rose shade, Woody Wonder is a warm brown bronzer (this is more of a bronzer) and Gold Glory is a muted golden bronze.

02 Vivid Victory

The blush is very pretty and would work for all skin tones, bronzer is quite light and would only show up on fair skin tones and the highlight is again subtle and muted, would work for all especially deeper skin tones.

I feel they should have interchanged the bronzer in both the palettes and then palette 01 would be perfect for fair skin tones and 02 for deeper skin tones.

I like the bronzer 01, blush 02 and highlighters both, but 02 more. The texture is really smooth and the powders are very finely milled. These palettes are perfect for day time use and travel, both the highlighters are very subtle and muted, if that’s what you prefer in highlighters.

I do like and recommend the new Sugar Cosmetics face palette, the combination is again an off for me, just like I mentioned in the eye shadow quads HERE.

I am giving away the minis on my Youtube channel, the video embedded below, join 🙂

What do you think about the new Sugar Palettes? Have you tried them?

Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator Review, Swatches

Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator Review, Swatches

By Devika

Voila beauties!

Hope you all lovely ladies are doing good busy stashing up your makeup stuff. As I was going through mine, I found one thing missing and that’s a HIGHLIGHTER which is like the talk of the town now .Everybody is talking about it, it’s on everyone’s face, every brand seems to be endorsing them in creams, powders, liquid forms or in the form of strobe creams as they are calling them to be and they are like crazily being eyed upon. However, playing it safe I picked for me this Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Light which I would be reviewing for you guys.

Well, very few drugstore brands give you color options for highlighters to choose from and one is forced to look up to high end ones but Revlon has reintroduced these highlighters and it comes in 3 shades in Peach, Bare and Pink lights. So let’s get started

Price is 950 INR for 30ml of product

Shelf life is 3 years

Shades available: Peach, Bare and Pink lights

Product claims: Banish dullness and even out skin with light capturing crystals and photochromatic pigments for a lit-from-within look. Wear alone to highlight and brighten. Mix with or wear over foundation to banish dullness and even out skin tone.

My experience

Packaging-It comes in a slim tube which is quiet sturdy and looks simple yet elegant, the color of which corresponds to the shade it is, with a black glossy rectangular screw cap. The product is dispensed through a nozzle and since it’s runny in CONSISTENCY so nozzle has no control over the flow of the product, so it has to be held in an upright position every time you apply it. You just need to tilt the bottle to let the product flow out without actually pressing the bottle else it would lead to product wastage and then there is no option to put the product back.In all it’s easy to carry around and spill free.

How to use- It’s important to carefully let off the product from the tube as I said. Just tilt the bottle a little and dispense on your finger a drop or two and dab on the high ends of your face like cheek bones, bridge of the nose, cupids bow, under the eyebrow and blend into the skin. You can use fingers or damp sponge to spread but I found fingers worked best for me (the heat and pressure of fingers helps the product to spread easily). As it has lotion like consistency it gets easily absorbed into the skin and settles into a semi matte finish-It doesn’t look cakey either. Its buildable product so one can always add more although a small amount goes a long way! However it is not to be used on damaged or broken skin.

The TEXTURE is runny, lotion like, with very subtle glitters present and this gives the very natural highlighting finish on the skin. It suits all skin types. Even the oily skin ones can carry this formula easily as it is light weight and non-greasy. The SMELL is a light chemical pertained but not overpowering and fades off in a few seconds after application. This particular shade in Bare Lights has a champagne color with shimmers and would suit fair to medium skin tones but look loud on dark complexion. The skin shows healthy glow when it catches any form of light without being over the top, so it’s best for those who are new to highlighters as its sheer and subtle effect won’t let one overdo it. One can use it for everyday wear . I also tried mixing a drop or two into my foundation for that overall glistening look. But using it below the foundation didn’t show the product at all. I Have acne prone skin, I am glad it hasn’t broken me out. Also, it can easily be removed off with makeup remover.

Top- Blended
Bottom- Unblended/Swatch

Staying power- It fades away in 5 to 6 hours and those with oily skin would need touch-ups too. As summers are advancing, on hot sweaty days it might wither away further, so don’t forget to apply a layer of good SPF underneath to make it last longer.
Well, as compared to other high end brands, Payoff isn’t that great but compared to the price it comes in, it isn’t a bad deal either!!!

Pros

  • It is very soft and smooth, blends easily to form a natural glow on your face.
  • It is non-greasy or make your skin oily.
  • It has a fair staying power, stays around 5 to 6 hours over foundation.
  • The consistency helps in proper application of the product without overdoing it.
  • Product is buildable
  • It highlights face without giving an ‘on the top’ shimmery look.
  • The packing is sturdy and slim and travel friendly
  • A little will go a long way
  • Great for everyday look

Cons

  • The nozzle does not control the product flow, making it messy
  • It is not for those who really love shimmer highlighters on their face
  • Not suitable for dusky/dark skin tones
  • Oily skin people need touch ups
  • Little overpriced for a drugstore brand

SUMMARY

PACKAGING – sleek body, color coded, travel friendly, difficult dispensing
SHADE – a natural champagne gold with subtle shimmers
TEXTURE – lotion like runny, easily absorbed
PIGMENTATION – Natural, subtle and sheer pigmentation with not so dominant shimmer
STAYING POWER – 5 hours which require touch ups

Rating 4/5 (minus 1 for messy dispensing and frequent touch ups required)\

Final verdict: A promising, sleekly designed, light-weight highlighting liquid, which is not at all shimmery and gives a soft natural, glow to your face. I would recommend this highlighter for all those, who have just started their journey with highlighting and for those, who do not like over the top-shimmery look on their face.

So all those newbies, go get your hands on these beauties and get highlighted!!!!

Stay beautiful, Stay illuminated

Editor’s Note: I have swatched it before and wanted to try this, but have loads of highlighters to finish first 😀 I love how it is subtle and not too shimmery, same as their Highlighting Powder.

Faces Ultime Pro Metaliglow Opal, Champagne Review, Swatches

Faces Ultime Pro Metaliglow Opal, Champagne Review, Swatches

Hi guys,

Today I am reviewing something which can give us that glow we all desire 😉 Yes, a highlighter. I love highlighters and I am obsessed with them especially liquid ones coz you can use them in a numerous ways.

Faces Metaliglow is an old product which they have revamped and brought the new Ultime Pro Metaliglow in this pump packaging, of course with a new price too. Is it worth investing in? Read on to know..

What the Company claims: Faces Metaliglow is a gel based illuminator that glides easily, brightens the complexion and adds instant luminosity. Ultrafine light-reflecting pearls melts into the skin for a polished, natural-looking radiance. It has high percentage of thin pearls to deliver a precious, homogeneous glow. Its aqua based formula leaves a cooling effect on your face. It is dermatologically tested and paraben free.

Metaliglow can be used alone or mixed with a lotion to be used all over your face and body to highlight and create a sun-kissed, bronzed look for a sexier you!

Use it as a highlighter or just pat it over your foundation for a subtle glow.

Ingredients:

Shades Available:

  • Opal
  • Champagne
  • Topaz

MRP: Rs.799/- (Available online on Nykaa)

It comes in this sleek packaging with a black cap and a silver pump dispensor. The pump dispensor is anyday better than the previous packaging which required you to physically remove the product and must have led to a lot of wastage and messiness.

The shade Opal has a silver sheen and is the lightest, would work well for lighter skin tones.

The shade Champagne has a golden champagne sheen and is the mid shade, this would work for all skin tones, especially Indian warm skin tones.

The shade Topaz has a rose gold sheen and is the darkest, would work for medium to dusky skin tones.

I have the shades Opal and Champagne with me today. Talking about the texture, these are quite runny and feel gel like in texture, but are super light and blend easily. But once set, it doesn’t budge, so blend quickly and don’t let it dry. The swatches on my hand were quite difficult to remove.

It gives the softest glow ever, you cannot go overboard with this, as the shimmer is ultra-fine and not even much visible, just giving a beautiful highlight to your face. It never looks heavy or stark. This is the perfect highlighter even for day time.

It stays almost throughout the day, I have worn it for about 8-9 hours and it lasted well.

You can either mix it with your foundation or directly apply it over the foundation on the highest points of your cheeks or do both. See the complete strobing step by step tutorial HERE. You can even layer this with a powder highlighter for more hold and glow.

Here are the swatches:

L-Opal, R- Champagne

I wore the shade Champagne in this video HERE.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this, coz the quantity is pretty good for the price, and there are very few good highlighters available in India especially liquid. This is one of the best in the market currently and the shade Champagne would be universally flattering and work for everyone.

Revlon Highlighting Palette Bronze Glow Review, Swatches

Revlon Highlighting Palette Bronze Glow Review, Swatches

Remember I mentioned about Revlon’s new Cheek Boutique i.e the new Powder Blushes and Highlighting Palette HERE.

I was one of the winners of Revlon’s Travel look contest and got the highlighting palette Bronze Glow too as a part of the prize. Though the poor thing got completely smashed in the courier.

What the Company claims: Revlon Highlighting Palette for an all over sun kissed glow. Complimentary shimmer shades blend to enhance the complexion for a radiant sun kissed look.
Enhances and illuminates the complexion
Gives a multi-dimensional sculpted look
Easy to blend, buildable color

MRP: Rs.950/- for 7.5g

Shades Available: Rose Glow, Bronze Glow, Peach Glow (I love the Bronze the most)

This is how it looked after some cleaning.

Almost like those Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks and The Body Shop highlighters, but less shimmery. I like my highlighters less shimmery, we aint no shiny disco balls :p

Though it does look a little too shimmery in the pan, but upon swatching, it comes out a beautiful rosy bronze. It has 5 strips, one is white, and the other 4 are shades of bronze, copper, pink bronze and pink copper. So all blended together, it gives our a nice bronze with a pink sheen which looks beautiful on our warm skin tones.

Top- Individual, Bottom- Blended

Though if you are on the lighter side, I would recommend checking out Rose Glow and Peach Glow. But for medium Indian skin tones, Bronze Glow is just perfect.

It stays on for 6-7 hours and slowly fades but does not go away completely. Also works for highlighting the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes. I use it on the bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow too for that little pout effect.

Its pigmented and buildable, easy to use coz you can build it slowly, won’t make you look funny even if you are new to highlighters and blushes.

Though its on the expensive side, it does offer good quantity and quality. I would have liked it to be priced around Rs.750-800/-. Sadly wee do not have good highlighters available in India, so if you are looking for a good highlighter from an Indian brand and that is easily available, this is one of the few options.

I did expect better and sturdier packaging though, this is not at all travel friendly. You can see the condition of the smashed palette.

Overall, I do like it and recommend it. I love highlighters and this is one of my current favourites.

Rating: 3.75/5 (-0.25 for the packaging)
