How to: Sculpt your face using a Bronzer

How to: Sculpt your face using a Bronzer

I loved this super detailed step by step explanation on sculpting on Vogue…here it is for you..

Clean lines and sharp contrasts were all the trend on the runways this season. Contouring your face to make the planes and angles pop isn’t as hard as its made out to be. We spoke with Ojas Rajani, Lead Makeup Artist – L’Oreal Paris to help us simplify the look in six easy steps.

Step 1: Apply foundation all over face and neck. Follow through with concealer under the eyes, on your lids and on any blemishes.

Step 2: With an angled blush brush like M.A.C Brush #168, sweep a matte bronzer in one stroke beginning at the center of the natural hollow on your cheeks. Move it upwards and outwards towards the hairline.

Pro Tip: “There are no horizontal strokes in makeup. Everything is applied in upward strokes and blended.” says Rajani.

With very little product add a couple more strokes blending the line. Follow through with a dusting of matte peach blush on the apples of your cheeks. “Together, these create the illusion of high cheek bones and makes your face looks leaner” says Rajani

Step 3: With a powder brush, sweep the bronzer along the hairline across your forehead, sides of your nose, the jaw line, moving onto the neck and collar bones. A hint of colour on the shoulders and décolletage completes the bronzing part of the look.

Vogue.in tip: Use a fluffy eye shadow brush to contour your nose. It’s the right size and the less dense brush makes colour appear diffused versus having two stripes along the sides of your nose.

Step 4: For your eyes, reverse the regular technique by starting from the crease. Apply a coffee brown matte shadow on the crease. Follow through with a bronze eye shadow on the lids and a peach highlighter on the brow bone. “There always has to be one element that softens the overall look. Here it is the peach highlighter” notes Rajani.

Step 5: With a dense small eye shadow brush, blend the coffee brown along the lower lash line and run a gel eyeliner in brown along the upper lash line. We love the L’Oreal Paris Super Liner 24 Hour Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in brown. Fill in the eye brows and use lengthening mascara on your lashes to complete the eyes.

Step 6: Finish the look with a creamy peach lip colour. Vogue.in recommends the Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick – Baby.

See how perfectly contoured her cheeks look….I loved the look.

Beauty Angel Palette in Gold Review,Swatches

This is a very nice, handy, perfect for travel beauty book..has a magnetic lock all around it..so remains closed too..12 eye shadows,2 blushes and a small mirror with a small dual sided brush..which has a sponge applicator on one side and a small brush on the other..though you cannot use that much obviously.

The colors are very pretty…soft to touch and easy to use..but all are shimmery…so these are not the type you can blend with but you need to apply them like you do with pigments..the tapping method.

These are available in blue, green and purple too.

About the product:

Brand New With Original Retail Packing Box

100% Authentic

Includes 12 Color And 2 Blush

Dimensions(Open): 12cm X 17cm X 1cm

EyeShadow Net: 1.2g X 12

Blush Net: 5g X 2

MRP: 14.50 $

Here are some swatches..mostly all shades are frosty

Left 6 shades…anti clockwise
1st is a  light shimmery green
2nd is a frosty lilac
3rd is a shimmery peach
4th is a shimmery off white silver with a khaki green touch
5th is a pretty soft pink shade
6th is a midnight blue

R-L:1 to 6

Right 6 shades..anti clockwise
1st is a shimmery silver
2nd is an icy blue with shimmery silver
3rd is a bronzy plum brown..my most favorite of the lot..
4th is a cool sea blue
5th is a shimmery light purple
6th and last shade is peachy copper brown..my 2nd favorite

R-L-1 to 6

The blushes are a true peach shade and a fuchsia pink shade with very very fine shimmer which is hardly visible..the peach shade is not so pigmented but it acts more as a beauty powder than a blush…gives that instant warm glow to the face..whereas the fuchsia pink is very pigmented..you need to use it sparingly and carefully.

Pros:

1. Super handy and perfect for travel.
2. Easy to use shadows and blush…quite smooth.
3. Economically priced.
4. Pretty combination of highlighters and colors.
5. I liked both the blushes..a true peach and a fuchsia.
6. Staying power is normal..4-5 hours…was not expecting much.

Cons:

1. Since they are shimmery..cannot be used everywhere.
2. Little fall out is there with a few eye shadows.
3. The brush provided is not of much use.
4. Available online only. Check them out here
5. Peach blush is not so pigmented.

Overall quite nice..I like the fact that its small, compact and handy and includes everything..loved the combination of colors too..

Use Directions: Apply evenly and liberally on your lips, as often as needed

MRP: Rs.125/- for 10g

Its a normal plain looking thick butter..it melts on the contact of skin and spreads smoothly on the lips. It has super yummy cocoa butter smell…Its one of the most moisturising product ever..makes and keeps lips super soft. My upper lip was a little dry from a few days and this thing solved my problem in a day. Works amazingly well.

Pros:

1. Love how moisturising this is..!
2. Contains cocoa butter, kokum butter, sal butter, mango butter..the best combination of all moisturising butters.
3. Smells awesome !!
4. It is free from all preservatives and parabens and is totally natural.
5. Economically priced.

Cons:

1. Tub packaging..but they do mention that its a personal care product and should be used by only one person..but ya you need to dip hands..so a hygiene issue.
2. It would help heal chapped lips but obviously not for forever..you do need to use it whenever you feel you got dryness…though this I would not consider a con..I do not expect permanent results too.

No other con..this is a wonder product for lips..overall I super love it..!!

NYX Round Lipstick in Tea Rose Review,Swatches and Reccos

What the Company claims : NYX’s Round Lipstick is a velvet-textured lipstick formulated with mineral oils to provide moisturizing benefits and rich colors. NYX’s top selling lipstick, the Round Lipstick offers long-lasting, non-smudging color.

Size: Net wt. 4g/ 0.14oz.

Ingredients:

MRP: 4$ or Rs.400/-

These are now known as Lip Smacking Fun Colors..they come in 144 shades plus there are around 20 shades newly added !!

Tea Rose is one of the most famous colors in NYX..when I wanted to purchase it last time on Pork Daisy this shade was out of stock..so you can guess how much in demand this shade is..

Tea Rose is a light tea rose pink shade…not something which everyone can carry and every time..this shade has a tendency to wash out too paler and too dusky skin tones..but it will suit medium to fair complexions well..with the right overall makeup.

These are super duper creamy and last well compared to the creaminess..you can easily skip a lip balm with them..

These round lipsticks are now named Fun Smacking Lip Colors..

Pros:

1. Super creamy and moisturising.
2. Pigmented enough..just a swipe is enough when I do not want much color.
3. These are pretty economical at the price, quality and with the shades available.
4. Love the choice of shades I get with it..
5. Colors at the end to differentiate the shades if you have a few of these lipsticks.
6. Stays for 2-3 hours.

Cons:

1. Packaging is plastic..if these fall I think they would break easily.
2. These would melt in summers or in hot climate.
3. Availability in India is a issue.

Overall I super like it…and the shades I think which would be good on Indian skin tones are Heredes, Pumpkin Pie,Heather, Lala, Indian Pink, Haute Mellon, Peach bellini,Thalia, Blush,Frappucino,Femme,Fig,Margarita,Twist..OMG..there are soo many pretty shades to choose from !

Would I buy it again: Does this even need an answer…I am surely eyeing a few shades 😉

Delhi Couture Week 2011 Round Up

Vogue presents the best of Delhi Couture Week 2011

The makeup artists at the recently concluded Delhi Couture Week went the extra mile this year by creating a host of challenging looks for the shows. Here’s some of the ones that got our votes.

Varun Bahl’s show was centered around the lips and artists delicately painted a concentric look in shades of burgundy and red culminating in a gold center. JJ Valaya’s show saw some Spanish influenced rustic romance created by makeup artist Vimi Joshi for MAC. For a similar red lip look, try MAC lipstick in Russian Red. Joshi was also the brain behind the fierce look at Manav Gangwani’s show. Take notes from this look and pair a white eyeliner and a hint of white eyeshadow along your lower lash line with a winged eye look. The feline look also made an appearence at Suneet Verma’s show, except it was softened and toned down with a nude lip and cheeks creating a more sensuous, feminine effect.

Peaches and golds were the code for the day at Adarsh Gill show. Its a look we’d love to try on a lunch date. The boldest look however was at Shantanu & Nikhil show where makeup artist Mickey Contractor crafted a flawless nude face on the models and brought in a striking contract with blackened lips. The look almost makes us want to whip out our black lipsticks hidden deep in our beauty closets and for good reason. Contractor’s tool of choice – MAC lip Pencil in NIght Moth and MAC Lipglass in Dark As Night.

MRP: Rs.100/- for 175g and Rs.35/- for 50 ml

Its a thick white cream in a tub..same packaging and thickness as the Himalaya Anti Dandruff Hair Cream which I reviewed earlier..but this one is white and that was light green coz of the tea tree oil presence..and the Anti Dandruff cream smelled nicer 🙂

Pros:

1. Makes hair soft and nice.
2. You just need 20 mins to apply and keep it..a good substitute for people who are always in a hurry and skip oiling their hair..though I do not advice not oiling hair.
3. Comes in a sealed packaging with another thin plastic cover on top.
4. Smells ok..but not that good as the Anti Dandruff cream.
5. Economically priced.
6. Shelf life of 3 years.

Cons:

1. The tub packaging is a little messy to apply…and dipping hands..not something I liked.
2. Smell does not linger on for long unlike the Anti Dandruff one which stays for 2 days.
3. I did not see any change in hair fall as claimed.
4. Has parabens.

Overall quite decent..can be used regularly..and as a substitute for oil at times.

Natural is a peachy nude pink..very close to Rose Petal that being more nude pinky..its a very pretty shade..gives that ‘pinched cheeks’ kinda look…its true to its name..and gives a nice natural flushed cheeks.

This is my first proper cream blush after Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush..and I am loving it..its nicely pigmented and very creamy..have buttery smooth texture.

T- Unblended B- Blended

How to apply: I use my fingers..but you can also use a stippling brush

Pros:

1. Nicely pigmented.
2. Very easy to use.
3. Stay on for 4-5 hours and more so topped with powder blush.
4. Give a dewy finish.
5. Travel friendly..can be carried and used anywhere anytime.
6. I like this particular shade for the fact that you cannot go overboard with it..it would never make you look like a clown.
7. Works as a nice base for powder blushes.

Cons:

1. You get a lot of quantity and it is to be used within 12 months of opening..and no one will ever be able to do that…so a lot of product would be wasted.
2. In hot and humid climate like summers of Mumbai..it hardly stays for 1-2 hours.
3. The plastic cap is not that good and it broke when it reached me and it just does not get fixed 🙁
4. A little expensive in India.
5. May not suit oily skin..it will give that shiny appearance unless skin is mattified properly.

Overall I quite love these..Some other shades I recommend after Natural are Glow, Boho Chic..and if you would like to experiment..go for Red Cheeks, Orange and Hot Pink
