Clinique Global Colour Artist, Jenna Menard, shares some expert tips and tricks:

Q: What is the best way to wear Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes?

A: These unique shadow sticks come in a variety of colours and layering shadows has never been so easy and mess-free. You can create a professional look in just minutes by applying different colours on particular areas of the lid. The key is to blend the edges of the colours with a shadow brush before the makeup sets. You can really have a lot of fun with this shadow! Each shade can be worn alone as an all over colour on the lid, combined with an eyeliner to create more definition, layered under a powder shadow to create more dimension with two textures, or layered with other shadow sticks to create a creamy blend of wow colours on the lids.

Q: What are some of your favourite colour combinations using Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes?

A: Different colour combinations can be worn to achieve different looks:

·         For a fresh look: Apply Lavish Lilac as an all over colour on top and along the bottom lash line, and use Fuller Fudge as a wide eyeliner close to the top lash line. Lavish Lilac and Fuller Fudge is a great combination for the fall season.

·         For a sophisticated look: Apply Bountiful Beige stick all over the lid starting from the base of the lash line to just slightly above the crease of the lid. Apply Ample Amber (shade not available in India) towards the outer corner of the lid along the crease and blend outward. To create a more precise shape use a shadow brush to blend the two shades together creating the desired shape.

·         For a dramatic look: Apply Curvaceous Coal all over the lid starting from the lash line to just above the crease. Use Pink & Plenty to create a dimensional highlight on the lid. Apply Pink & Plenty over Curvaceous Coal on the inner corner of the lid, just above Curvaceous Coal on the base of the brow bone and traced along the bottom lash line.

These application tips can also be applied to other colour combinations.

Makeup Master Class at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

Makeup Master Class by Lakmé Absolute at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

I attended the Day 3 of Lakme Fashion Week today..starting with the master class first..where Natasha Nischol spoke about the new makeup trends for autumn winter and demonstrated two looks on Sarah Jane Dias..here is the official press note..

Lakmé has been a trendsetter for decades and has created several outstanding looks for Indian fashion weeks. A first edition of an interactive Master Class series was conducted by Lakmé expert Natasha Nischol, who revealed how to achieve the Lakmé Absolute Royal looks that would stun the audience at the Grand Finale of the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. Purnima Lamba – Head of Innovation, Lakmé India, introduced Natasha Nischol on stage and invited her to demonstrate the season’s beauty statement to the audience.

The first ever Lakmé makeup Master Class was initiated by Natasha at The Source, Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013, who welcomed well known actress Sarah Jane Dias as a model for the session. A short clipping of Sarah Jane Dias, Lakmé’s Digital Ambassador, presenting make-up tutorials for beauty enthusiasts was screened.

Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation, Lakmé India said, “Lakmé has always supported emerging talent through various platforms like Gen Next and Talent Box at LFW. Extending this endeavour, we are proud to start a one-of-its kind Beauty Masterclass for the budding beauty enthusiasts. With the first session by Natasha Nischol, our attempt is to sustain this as a platform from where Lakmé announces the top international beauty trends and decoding them for the Indian audience every season.”

Wearing an Aartivijay Gupta maxi dress, Sarah Jane was glad to be a part of the Master Class and said that she had a lot of fun making the makeup tutorial videos with Lakmé. She mentioned that young girls around the country always have several queries regarding makeup, which Natasha addressed today.

Natasha demonstrated two key trends for the season – Red Lips by Day Look and Red Lips by Night Look, which are Lakmé’s beauty statement for the season. She reminisced about her mother dressing up, which was the beginning of her interest in make-up. She confessed that her first eyeliner and lipstick were coincidently Lakmé products, which she uses even today.

Natasha kick started the workshop by discussing current global make-up trends such as clean matte complexion, statement metallic eyes, futuristic eyeliner, petal/berry stained lips, invisible eyeliner, statement brows, 40’s femininity, 90’s inspired grunge, rock and roll and a statement red mouth.

She then demonstrated the Red Lips by Day look where a base of Lakmé CC light cream in a beige tone was already applied to Sarah’s face prior to the show. A compact from the Absolute range was used for definition followed by invisible eyeliner which gave the illusion of full lashes and mascara for volume.

Natasha followed it by staining Sarah’s lips with light red, after blotting the lip balm that she had put initially to ensure smooth application of the lipcolour. She added a little blush to her cheeks to add a dash of colour and blended it in. A brown smoky eye shadow was applied with an infusion of green, pink and gold metallics along with a hint of eyeliner.

Natasha shared a few tips – the more shades one blends in, the longer it stays and also said that she believes in the philosophy of ‘less is more’. According to her, makeup is something to have fun with and that day-by-day Indians are getting out of their comfort zones and experimenting with more colours.

Sarah confessed that fingers are the best way to apply makeup. The Red Lips by Night look was then taken up by adding highlights to the face with another layer of mascara and further blending in the four shades of the eye colour palette. A deep ‘Milan Red’ lipstick topped off with a ‘Red shine’ gloss was applied creating instant glamour. Natasha said that one should be careful with the amount of gloss that is applied and ensure it doesn’t look over the top.

The look was finished by giving Sarah’s nails a touch of Lakmé’s ‘Scarlet red’ Gel Stylist Nail Colour.

Natasha also shared tips for people to select the perfect red according to their skin tone. Sarah Jane Dias thanked Natasha for changing the misconception that red lips are difficult to carry off. Natasha mentioned that one should look after their skin in order to bring about your best. She also shared her personal skin care regime, which consisted of Lakmé best-sellers like Lakmé Clear Pores Facewash and Scrub, Youth Infinity Serum and CC cream.

Sarah questioned Natasha on more secrets to share and she willingly informed the audience that Absolute Eye Duos eye-shadows that can be used wet and dry insures a smudge free technique and can simply be doubled up for eyeliner. The Lakmé Kajal pencil is also an excellent way to create a black smoky eye clubbed in with a tinted foundation. Sarah also spoke about her personal makeup tricks like using Absolute baked blush with lip gloss to get an excellent lip stain.

The session ended with Natasha and Sarah answering queries from the audience after which Sarah posed for photos with the audience and Natasha for a Twitter update.

I also got my hair done at the Lakme Salon at the Source..many of you must have seen the pic on my facebook page.

And checked the new Absolute Royal Opulence Collection by Sabyasachi  at the Lakme Pro Stylist Lounge and attended the Amit Aggarwal show later on..had fun with Jyo from Everything that Matters..would do an outfit post soon..and also post swatches of the new collection 🙂

Did you like the tips shared at the Master Class ? And my new hairdo ? 😉

Kaya Aqua Fairness Luxe Service Review

Kaya Aqua Fairness Luxe Service Review

I got a chance to try the Aqua Fairness Luxe Service by Kaya at the perfect time..right before my engagement when I was anyways going to get something done..

Many complimented my skin after seeing this pic below (got the service done just before the mehendi and this pic is taken 2-3 hours after the Aqua Fairness Luxe) and mentioned it was glowing..I would say all thanks to the Kaya Aqua Fairness Luxe.

I had mentioned about the Aqua Fairness Luxe last year HERE and about the August Rush HERE where they are offering 50% discount on some of their services including the Kaya Aqua Fairness Luxe.

When I went to Kaya, I consulted the doc and got a skin analysis done..she showed me the areas where I have pigmentation..there were dead skin cells and tanned areas like forehead…ewww it looked bad :/

She suggested Skin Lightening Peels or Aqua Fairness Luxe..and explained both the procedures..I went for the Aqua Fairness Luxe..

I was introduced to my attendant..she was quite good..and made sure I was comfortable..and explained everything step by step..and answered all my queries..since it is something related to my face and skin and this was just 2 days before my engagement..yes I was wary !

Aqua Fairness Luxe consists of five stages..let me explain the whole procedure..

Stage 1: Lymphatic Drainage

Water jet peel technology is used for this..a pen shaped nozzle dispensor is used to  dispense compressed air consisting of saline water all over the face..the velocity is low..and it pulls across the dead skin cells to one side..i.e the outside corners. Its done twice all over the face.

Stage 2: Exfoliation

The same dispensor and machine is used, this time with more velocity and more closer to the skin..to exfoliate the dead skin cells from the skin. Even this is done twice all over the face.

Stage 3: 10% Glycolic Infusion

The same machine is used to infuse 10% glycolic peel all over the face..it tingles a little which is very normal..and is kept for a minute. Then its washed off and a cooling neutralizing cream is applied. She extracted my black and white heads later on.

Stage 4: Massage

Face was massaged with aloe vera gel later on for 10-15 minutes.

Stage 5: Brightening Mask

A brightening mask was applied on the skin which was to be kept for 20 minutes and eye pads and blanket..I just dozed off :p

More about the process: This summer, reverse the effects of the sweltering heat and scorching sun with a new skin care service from Kaya Skin Clinic – Aqua Fairness Luxe, a new innovation for instantly brighter looking skin.

For the first time in India, Kaya presents a fairness service which uses the water jet peel technology and an innovative Micropatch Botanical whitening extracts mask. Aqua Fairness Luxe gives you instant fairness in just 60 minutes and also two tones lighter skin in just 6 sessions.

This unique enhancement service uses the revolutionary water jet technology to exfoliate the skin, remove dead cells and create channels for deep glycolic infusion going up to 4.5mm deep into the skin. The glycolic fruit peel which is derived from sugarcane extracts penetrates into the skin easily, allowing new skin to surface quicker. This is followed by comedone extraction after which you can relax with a cooling massage with aloe vera gel to improve blood circulation and to soothe tired and overworked muscles. The service is completed by the application of Kaya’s Insta Brightening Micro Mask, with botanical whitening extracts and the innovative Micropatch technology which has a powerful and quick de-pigmentation effect. It breaks down melanin to give you instant fairness.

The whole procedure takes around one and a half hour..and  one single session costs Rs.3000/-..if you go for 3 sessions, you need to pay Rs.8000/- but this month they have a special offer where you can get 3 sessions at flat 50% off at Rs.4000/-..totally worth it !

Post care: One is supposed to apply sunscreen and moisturiser..and no active ingredients i.e anti acne or other stuff to be used for 2-3 days. Wash face only with plain water. No parlor activities i.e waxing, threading, bleaching, etc for 7 days before and after the service.

It is advisable to undertake 3 sessions of this service at a gap of 15 days to enjoy best results- even toned, flawless skin.

I totally loved it !! And surely going for more of these..highly recommend trying this out..only after the consultation with the doctor though..

P.S: Services offered by Kaya but it has not affected my opinion.

Manish Malhotra at LFW Winter/Festive 2013

Manish Malhotra at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013

MANISH MALHOTRA THE “FASHION BADSHAH OF BOLLYWOOD COUTURE” OPENED THE LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2013 SEASON WITH A SENSATIONAL FESTIVE COLLECTION OF BREATHTAKING BEAUTY

Manish Malhotra the “Fashion Badshah of Bollywood Couture” opened the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 season with a spectacular festive/pre-bridal collection, which was a feast for the eyes.

Dozens of white and orange lanterns hung from the ceiling, which lit up when the show began. To add drama to the setting, pairs of models walked down the ramp separated by a white curtain of fabric strands. It was a time to celebrate with lights, cameras and action.

Highlighting the festivities of India, Manish’s collection called “Reflections” was a stunning offering, which had gorgeous synergy with Indian traditions, cultures, rituals and vibrant colour spectrum for the fusion line.

The fabulous hues of Rajasthan and Kutch came alive on the runway as models swirled around wearing creations in rainbow tones of deep green, dark beige, tan, burgundy, shocking pink, red, navy, and mustard dappled with mirror work and interesting colour blocking.

Using regal textured silks embellished with thread and exclusively created zari work from Kashmir; the collection was an intense melangé of youthful vigour and timeless touches. Experimenting with silhouettes, Manish showcased the stylish ghagra-pant – a fusion of the Sharara and classic pant, which will give some strong alternatives to lehengas. Another interesting innovation was the Koti (bolero) top reinvented from the Rajasthan Koti, which can be teamed with saris or ghagras.

The fabric selection by Manish was varied with tulle, chiffon, georgette, pure/raw silk, velvet, textured fabrics mixed and matched or contrasted perfectly, to create a great fashion statement.
Opening the show a pair of sheer kurtas with mirror work on the sleeves teamed with the flared ghagra/pants, Manish revealed his control over the embellishments, which were restricted to intelligent placements. Glitter and resham work along with hints of zari created a melodious symphony of fashion. Necklines were very sexy and seductive as they plunged in the front into daring “V” or at the back, often tied with tantalizing tassels.

Appliqué was brought in tonal colours for sleeves, while the luxurious layered flared ghagra-pants had comfortable side pockets. Asymmetric covers, diagonal colour blocking for kurtas with contrast edged side slits, tulle lehenga-saris with velvet cholis, shocking pink embroidered flared pants with silk shirts or velvet blouses and the final heavily embellished Raja coats over black flared pants created a breathtaking impact on the ramp.

Men’s wear was elegant in style with colour blocking playing a major role for two-tone kurtas, some with stripes as detailing on cuffs and down the front but teamed with wide salwars, dhotis or dhoti pants. Sherwanis appeared with narrow trousers, while bundies in varied colour contrasts over kurtas were masculine in style and finish. Velvet detailing appeared at times on hemlines, yokes, shoulders and cuffs to add a touch of excitement to the predominantly ethnic line.

When it comes to a collection which offers numerous alternatives to the adventurous bride and groom who long for that unconventional look during the wedding festivities; it will have to be “Reflections” from Manish Malhotra that will make them the cynosure of all eyes.

These are super glossy and hydrating..though sheer but are buildable..the darker shades like Sorbet are quite pigmented..the gel formula gives a lip balm feel..so the effect is somewhere in between of a gloss and lip balm and a sheer lipstick..Sorbet stays for 3-4 hours..

Sorbet is a medium cool toned pink..very flattering on medium to fair skin..its such a prettyy pink..not as bright and neonish as the Fuchsias..nor the lighter daily wear pinks..something that would brighten up your face and still look subtle enough..this shade is a must have ! Toni & Guy HairMeetWardrobe India Launch

Toni & Guy HairMeetWardrobe India Launch

I attended the Toni & Guy HairMeetWardrobe event on 7th at Taj Lands End, Bandra..was a fun night..here is the official press release..

TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe, Britain’s most celebrated hair-styling brand, today made a resounding foray into the Indian market, bringing with it a gamut of its most distinguished global products. Dominating the twin worlds of high fashion and hair styling, TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe coherently defines everything that lies in between. The debut launch emphasises the brand’s philosophy of ‘HairMeetWardrobe’, showcasing the revolutionary concept of how hair can be worn as an accessory.

The much anticipated India launch witnessed an avant-garde evening with an enthralling musical performance, witnessed by the crème-de-la-crème of the fashion and film fraternity. TONI&GUY’s HairMeetWardrobe Global Hair Ambassador Mark Hampton and official fashion stylist Manish Aroratogether brought to life the brand’s HairMeetWardrobe philosophy by lending their creative sensibilities to hair styling and wardrobe, respectively.

Themed on the concept of ‘HairMeetWardrobe,’ and the three timeless looks – Casual, Classic and Glamour – ace choreographer Shiamak Dhawar, beautifully brought to life the brand’s philosophy through a themed musical performance. At the musical, Anusha, Soha and Malaika performed as showstoppers for their respective themes.

Three Indian fashionistas – the glamorous Malaika Arora Khan, classic beauty Soha Ali Khan and casual yet chic Anusha Dandekar walked the red carpet in three timeless looks curated by Mark Hampton, TONI&GUY’s HairMeetWardrobe Global Hair Ambassador. Each of these divas embodied the theme of a chic TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe range, namely – Glamour, Classic and Casual.

Mark Hampton, TONI&GUY’s HairMeetWardrobe Global Hair Ambassador is the go-to expert for shoots, rock stars and leading fashion brands internationally, and regularly shoots with the biggest fashion titles and global fashion names like Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar and POP. Speaking at the launch event, Mark Hampton said, “The launch of TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe celebrates a new beginning in the way Indians wear their hair. I really enjoyed translating the brand’s philosophy and attitude into Indian styling sensibilities for the three Divas. I am passionate about putting hair at the heart of the show and ‘Dressing from the Head Down,’ and I am glad to have done just that here!”

Official Fashion Stylist Manish Arora, who brought the wardrobe to life, said, “I am super excited to partner with TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe. I have always been a fan of the brand and it’s concepts. As a designer it was very exciting for me to depict the TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe philosophy with three timeless looks – Casual, Classic and Glamour.  The three looks that I created for Malaika, Soha and Anusha were conceptualised keeping in mind the idea of ‘Dressing from head down.’ Working with Mark Hampton to create these iconic looks was a truly delightful experience.”

Malaika Arora Khan, who embodied the TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe Glamour look said, “I am thrilled to represent the Glamour collection which I believe is entirely in line with my personality and personal fashion sensibilities. My hair and wardrobe spells confidence and glamour. And I like that!”

Soha Ali Khan, flaunted the Classic TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe look and said, “Classic is timeless, it is ageless and you can always give it a contemporary twist. I am most comfortable in this look and I am glad to have been chosen to represent the Classic collection which I believe compliments my personality too.”

Representing the TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe Casual look, Anusha Dandekar commented, “I am extremely excited to represent the TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe Casual collection. The Brand History ~ Celebrating 50 years of strong heritage
The TONI&GUY salons were founded by brothers, Toni and Guy Mascolo, who opened their first salon in Clapham, South London in 1963. Because of the success of the salon chains, there emerged a strong demand for a line of consumer own-brand products that customers could take home with them. In 1999, this demand was met and TONI&GUY professional haircare products were successfully brought to retail.
2004 marked a landmark year as TONI&GUY UK became the official haircare sponsor of London Fashion Week. Creating the hair for over 70 shows a season, TONI&GUY have been setting trends and inspiring millions as the fashion platform is broadcast globally around the world. Eight years on, this long standing relationship with London Fashion Week has continued to flourish and over the 16 seasons, strong relationships have forged with key designers including Giles Deacon, Todd Lynn, William Tempest, Matthew Williamson and Acne to name a few.
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the salon, an accolade the Mascolo family and Unilever are very proud of. The year also marks TONI&GUY HairMeetWardrobe’s entry in India for the very first time.
