The Perfect Engagement Look – Indian Weddings

The Perfect Engagement Look – Indian Weddings

Hi guys,

Today we are talking about the perfect engagement look i.e. the makeup, hairstyle and the jewellery. Let me share a few engagement looks you can opt for:

The Perfect Engagement , Indian bridal Blog, Indian Makeup and Beauty Blog

1. Traditional Look

The traditional look would be the basic gold/bronze/copper eyes and a dash of green/purple/blue according to your outfit. Match it with a hot pink lipstick and soft curls for the hair. You can part hair at the centre for the maang tikka and add a nice necklace to finish the look. This look is perfect for a daytime engagement look. Also don’t forget to add false lashes, I had used them too! And they make a lot of difference.

2. Fun & Girly

If it’s a small ‘family only’ function and you are wearing a simple anarkali, you can go for neutral brown/gold eyes and soft peach lips. An updo with curls on the side would look great and a maang tikka with heavy statement earrings will finish the look. You can skip the necklace here as you don’t want the ‘over done’ look.

3. Boho Chic

For the modern boho bride, you can opt for a messy fishtail bride and accessorize it with a necklace. Soft brown eyeshadow, winged liner and matte red lips on the makeup front. Wear a bindi to finish the look. Polki necklace and earrings are the perfect match with this look.

4. Modern Evening Look

If you have a night time engagement cum party kind of a function. opt for a gown and a glamorous night time look is your best bet. A nice messy bun and smokey eyes with nude lips are perfect. Go for nice statement chandelier earrings and a cocktail statement ring.

Few things to keep in mind:

1. Don’t over spray your hair, it is quite visible and looks made up. I had gone for soft curls with a pouf and my hair is way too soft, I had to spray a lot to keep them in place and trust me, it doesn’t look good in person.

2. Contouring looks good in pictures but you would be meeting a lot of people personally, so don’t over contour, keep it very light and natural.

3. If you opt for false lashes, go for very natural looking ones and not too over sized or dramatic. Also make sure they are glued and stuck well, you don’t want them to come off in the midst of your function.

4. Nails, it will be all about your ring and the hands 😉 Well manicured nails with some pretty nail art and you will get amazing pictures. I went with the classic French manicure, coz I believe they look beautiful with the mehendi. You can also add rhinestones or some floral studs on the white French.

5. Bangles, this is the day when you go all out. They look pretty and complete your entire outfit and look beautifully.

6. You can also add a waist belt/jooda if you are wearing a saree or lehenga.

You can always mix and match the above looks, you need not stick to any single style. I had opted for tight curls with a pouf on top for my engagement. I did not go for a maang tikka but just necklace and earrings and of course lots of bangles. Makeup wise, I went with a mix of bronze and brown with hint of blue as my outfit was blue. Soft pink lips and a small bindi completed my look.

Three things that you must do for any look:

  • Dewy, highlighted skin
  • Filled eye brows
  • False Eyelashes

Rest is upto you and your outfit 🙂

5 Colours & Fabrics for Winter Weddings

5 Colours & Fabrics for Winter Weddings

Hi guys,

Continuing the bridal series, today’s topic is the fabrics and colours that are perfect for weddings in the winter season. Fabric is the most important when it comes to Indian ethnic wear; also it should be something you are comfortable with, because comfort is most important when it comes to the heavy wedding attire.

There are different options to choose from like organza, mal, suede, silk, crepe, chiffon, georgette, etc. It is quite confusing for a bride to be honest. However, fret not, let me list down the best options for you according to the current wedding season.

1. Organza

Organza is one of the most fluid fabrics and it falls beautifully. It is perfect for the sleeves or as the top layer of your skirt/ghagra/lehenga. It looks amazing as a jacket or cape too. Zardozi work looks beautiful on the organza fabric.

2. Silk

One of the most used fabrics in Indian ethnic wear is silk. There are different types within silk like raw silk, cotton silk, etc. Raw silk looks the best when it comes to choli or the blouse. You can even wear an entire anarkali or ghagra choli of silk.

3. Crepe

Crepe works well for sarees and tunics. Crepe sarees look beautiful, even on curvy women as it gives shape and definition to the body and does not make one look bulky. Long crepe jackets are also a good option for winters.

4. Mal

Mal fabric is the softest and most comfortable for any attire. It is perfect for daytime weddings, though it is slightly on the expensive side, but, for days when you have to be out for a ceremony whole day, mal fabric outfit would be your best bet.

5. Velvet

Velvet is also a perfect fabric for winters. You can add it on the choli’s sleeves or as a thick border for your bottoms.

Coming to colours now…

1. Powder Pink/Blush Pink/Onion Pink

Pastel shades of pink are “in” this season and they look beautiful. Matched up with contrasting colours like navy blue and purple for the bottoms or borders, it makes the outfit stand out.

2. Bright shade of yellow

Oh yes! The sunshine yellow with floral print and appliqué style looks beautiful. Add gota patti border and it notches up the outfit. It is perfect for your mehendi/chooda ceremony. You can easily buy the fabric border and get it stitched as per your design.

3. Ivory/Toasted Almond

Now, ivory is not something you can wear for your functions as light shades are not really considered a good sign by some, but, you can definitely include it in your trousseau. Match it up with a bright red in a saree or anarkali and stand out, on a silk base.

4. Tangerine

Tangerine/Orange is my favourite! Bright orange paired with sunshine yellow/pink looks beautiful. You can go for a lehenga/anarkali in those shades with dull gold zardozi work on it.

5. Emerald Green

Emerald/jewel green is also “in” this season. It compliments lighter colours and makes for a nice contrast. Polki jewellery looks beautiful with an outfit that has a hint of green.

What are your favourite fabrics and colors for winter weddings?

Lakme Salon Bridal Stylist Services & Luminance 3+ Ritual Experiental

Lakme Salon Bridal Stylist Services & Luminance 3+ Ritual Experiental

Hi guys,

The wedding season is here and Lakme Salon is all geared up to serve the brides, I remember last year how everything from my hair to nails to body care was taken care of at Lakme Salon.

This season they have Lakme Salon Bridal Stylists who will take care of all the needs of a bride from skin to hair to makeup. They will advice her what all services she requires or can go for, makeup for her pre-wedding functions or the wedding. Basically create a customised package as per the bride’s requirements. Check out more details at www.lakmebridalstylist.in

Here is the Bridal Takeaway Menu and Prices..

I tried one of the services as a part of the Bridal package i.e. the Luminence 3+ Ritual Facial and here is my review on it.

Luminance 3+ Ritual is meant for lightening the skin i.e. it targets pigments/scars. It is also suitable for tanned & dull skin. it gives the skin a glow which the brides need, hence the name ‘Luminence’. It gives hydrated, soft and supple skin. Pregnant ladies or person suffering from fever or anything in particular are not advised to go for it.

Steps involved:

1. Skin is cleansed at first with a foam based cleanser.

2. A creamy exfoliator is used and massaged on the skin.

3. Steam is given on the face & comedones are extracted.

4. Vitamin C concentrated serum is applied on the skin.

5. It if followed by a massage with a night cream.

6. A peel off lightening pack is applied and it is kept for 10-15 minutes till it dries.

7. A toner is applied at the end.

Duration : Around 75 minutes

Price: Around Rs.4000/-

My skin was not tanned, so no immediate difference can be seen. Skin definitely felt moisturized, soft and supple. It takes 2-3 days for the results to show and my skin looked and felt healthier in 1-2 days. Here is my ‘Before’ and next day ‘After’

Before-After

Few Dont’s:

DO NOT go out in the sun immediately post this treatment or use a lot of sunscreen if you have to.

DO NOT wash your face for 10-12 hours with anything except water.

Overall I would say I love the bridal services at Lakme Salon and definitely recommend the brides-to-be to get a package customized for themselves as per their requirements.

P.S: Service was offered in exchange of honest review but that has not affected my opinion.

#WeddingDiaries & My Idea of Untraditional Wedding Twists

#WeddingDiaries & My Idea of Untraditional Wedding Twists

Hi guys,

I did a video with TBZ recently as a part of #WeddingDiaries where we shot a small video talking about weddings & the untraditional bride & her untraditional wedding twists.

Let me tell you little more about the Wedding Diaries

Wedding Diaries inculcates the view of the modern bride while still keeping the rituals and traditions intact. It is about the new-age bride who likes to have fun, plan her wedding, takes major decisions of her life, is independent while still being romantic. While she stands up for her own self and rights, she is not rebellious. Lastly, a woman who loves jewellery.

Don’t we all love jewellery and relate to the modern bride described above?! While I got married last year, I definitely relate to this modern new-age bride who wants to balance both things and likes a mix of both the worlds.

Of course we all want or would have liked something untraditional or different in our weddings. For me personally, I like to keep the wedding affair private and would have loved to have spent my special day with only my close friends and family. But you know as the norm goes, the entire extended families and age-old friends and family friends are invited, some are invited just because they invited our families when their son/daughter got married.

This is something I do not really relate to, though I convinced my parents to keep it short somehow but still the number of people were not very less. While I know of friends who have had weddings which more than 1000 people attended. That gets a bit too much, the bride and the groom themselves do not know half of the people.

I recollect one such incident from my own wedding, where an uncle came and gave us a bouquet, clicked a picture with us and was congratulating and saying some random things while we both were thinking he is from the opposite side and when he went, I asked my husband who he is and he said he thought the uncle was from our side 😀 Yes, such incidents are common when the wedding involves too many people.

Also spending lakhs and lakhs and having a grand reception, etc. is also something I do not relate to and thankfully both sides of parents agreed with us on this. We went for a good, long honeymoon and we would rather spend on a nice holiday than a reception.

Some other fun, untraditional wedding takes would be like the bride coming on a ghodi and wearing a pheta or something like that 😀

The Art to Picking the Right Engagement Ring for Brides and Grooms

The Art to Picking the Right Engagement Ring for Brides and Grooms

Hi guys,

Continuing the bridal series, today we are talking about the right engagement ring for the brides an grooms. Here are a few pointers which will help you pick the right engagement ring:

Establishing the budget: Decide a budget and stick to it more or less when you go ring shopping. The jewellers will try and show you expensive ones and solitaires, if it is something that does not fit your budget, don’t even look at those!

Find the perfect size: Get your ring finger sized first and go for the closest match, but make sure it is neither too tight nor too loose. Definitely not loose, it can be slightly rolled if it is bit tighter.

Ring band: There are so many different metals used for rings these days, most common being yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, platinum, and silver. You can even go for a mix of metals.

Quality of diamonds: When choosing a diamond, you have to check the four C’s i.e. Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Choose a diamond keeping in mind all these four characteristics.

Shape of diamond: You can go for round, oval, pear, heart, princess, there are different shapes to choose from. Shape of the diamond matters the most, even before everything else. Princess cut is the most common and something mostly people opt for.

Setting of diamonds: That is the main part again, if you opt for one big stone, you can for solitaire or Tiffany setting. If you have smaller stones, then you can cluster a shape or even mix the smaller clusters around the main, big solitaire.

Shape of ring: Keep in mind your hand shape, length of fingers and what shape of ring would look best on your fingers, before finalizing a ring.

The same rules apply when buying diamond rings for both brides and grooms, just that the shape of the diamond is not much of a concern for the groom as mostly it is the square setting and shape.

A couple can also opt for platinum bands if they prefer or even get it personalized by engraving their initials or date or place tbey met.

Top 10 Beauty Must haves for the Winter Bride

Top 10 Beauty Must Haves for the Winter Bride

Hi guys,

So the wedding season is here and I have some beauty must haves and handy tips for all you winter brides. Here you go:

1. Rich Moisturizer

That will be the number 1 requirement in winters. Skin will be dry and patchy which will lead to redness and unevenness on the skin, a rich moisturizer is what you must never skip. Apply it every morning on cleansed skin and maybe even reapply if your skin feels stretchy again throughout the day.

2. Sunscreen & Scarf/Umbrella

Oh the last minute shopping and rushing for the final trials & fittings, you do not want to be burned or tanned. While your sunscreen is a must to protect your skin from sun’s rays, it won’t help prevent tanning. You will have to cover your head with a nice scarf or better is to use an umbrella, no shame in protecting your skin before your big day!

3. Body Butter

Taking care of your body is equally essential because you don’t want dry patches or flaky skin. A good, rich body butter will keep your skin protected from the harsh winters & dryness

4. Exfoliator

Exfoliating is very essential to get rid of dead skin cells. Skin layer renews every 21 days and if the old and dead skin cells are not exfoliated, the new skin will come over the dead skin cells forming oil clogs, etc. So exfoliating your face once a week with a mild Exfoliator is a must for the bride-to-be. In the same way, body needs exfoliation too and the body Exfoliator can be a little rougher. Do not forget areas like the elbows and the knees

5. Night cream/Serum/Oil

Skin renews faster and absorbs products the quickest during night time. A rich night cream will give you soft, supple skin the next morning. These days you also get serums for targeted issues or a blend of essential oils which are natural and organic and yet work deep within your skin.

6. Lip Balm

Lips gets very dry and chapped in winters and if your lips are chapped, no lipstick or makeup would look good. So use a lip balm everyday & gently exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush in the morning while brushing your teeth. This will keep your lips soft & supple.

7. Deep conditioning hair mask

Hair is often ignored and taken for granted by brides-to-be. The main hair concern in winters is usually frizziness & dandruff. While dandruff can be taken care of by oiling or using an anti-dandruff shampoo, your hair will need moisture & hydration which only deep conditioning can give. So use a deep conditioning hair mask to nourish the hair and keep frizz at bay

8. Deep lipstick shades

Every bride-to-be should have a red lipstick in her stash. (MAC Ruby Woo is your best bet). But for winter weddings, deep plum and wine shades are IN this season. Check out L’Oreal Paris Pure Red Lipstick in Pure Garnet.

9. Neutral eyeshadow Palette

A neutral palette with golds, plums and browns is all you need when it comes to eyeshadows. If you are confused, go for Urban Decay Naked Palette.

10. Blush/Highlighter

A rosy pink blush to accentuate your cheeks and a good highlighter to enhance that bridal glow.

That’s it. What do you think are the beauty must haves for the winter bride?

Mumbai Bridal Diaries: One Stop Destination for the Brides-to-Be

Hi guys,

If you have been following my bridal series, you would have seen a lot of posts related to my wedding. I complete one year of my wedding exactly in a week 🙂

I know exactly how a bride-to-be feels and the thousands of mixed emotions she goes through. And planning her own perfect wedding is what every bride dreams of.

I myself have gone through numerous blogs and wedding magazines, taking inspirations for hair, makeup, jewellery, different kinds of ethnic wear for trousseau, etc. Every bride wants to be different coz things get repetitive easily with styles getting very common these days.

With just weeks or months left until the wedding, a bride’s heart is filled with excitement and anxiety. With the big-date getting closer, you may find her wishful and enthusiastic one moment and then getting nervous the very next second.

I would be sharing a lot of more bridal posts on fabrics to buy, how to plan your trousseau and engagement makeup, etc. So stay tuned for more on my Mumbai Bridal Diaries 🙂

Accessories from Confusion Fashion Accessories

Accessories from Confusion Fashion Accessories

Hi guys,

Remember the accessories I showed you last time from Confusion Fashion Accessories, see HERE. Read all about them in the previous post or at confusionfa.com

This time, I got a few more pieces to show you guys.

Pearl and Mesh Haath Phool

If you have seen the previous haath phool and how I was obsessed with it, you have to see this one. I absolutely love this haath phool/hand harness and have been wearing this a lot! This is slightly different coz it has a mesh and pearl kada on one side and then connects with the ring, unlike the usual bracelet.

Pearl Drop Earrings

These cute pearl drop earrings which I wore in my youtube video HERE, I love how small and light they are yet look pretty, they are kind of ‘jhumkas’ which you can wear with not only your Indian outfits but also fusion Indo-western wear. I have worn them with my maxi dress.

Kundan Maang Tikka

I love maang tikkas, they make you look pretty instantly and you don’t need any additional accessories when you are wearing a maang tikka. This one has kundan which makes it look all the more pretty and it has maroon enameled stone which makes it perfect for most of the Indian wear and wedding sarees.

Kundan Saree Keyring

And, last but not the least, a kundan saree keyring. I was in search of a good kundan keyring which is not very heavy since a long time and this is just perfect! It can make any saree look much more pretty and well accessorized. Key rings complement sarees beautifully.

I love all the four pieces here, if I have to choose, the haath phool is of course my favourite, followed by the earrings and maang tikka. And if I am wearing a saree, the key ring.

I really love Confusion Fashion Accessories’ collection and also the fact that they keep adding on new stuff every month. I see new collection and different, unique pieces every time I check their site.

If you are looking for some accessories for your Indian wear, definitely check out Confusion Fashion Accessories. They also have some nice house decor items. cuff links and brooch for men, etc.

What is your favourite piece? Do let me know in the comments below.

Saree.com- For all your Ethnic Wear Needs

Saree.com- For all your Ethnic Wear Needs

About Saree.com: Saree.com is a one stop shop for women’s ethnic and lifestyle needs. They aim to offer you most genuine and adorable garments for all the occasions.

When I was searching for ethnic wear for my wedding trousseau a few months back, very few sites online interested me. I liked Triveni Sarees and 1-2 other, but not many options were availble. Recently I stumbled upon Saree.com and I am hooked on to the site!

They stock everything from anarkalis to designer sarees to lehengas and even evening gowns! Evening gowns was something I could not find anywhere and I was searching them desperately for my cocktail. I wish I would have known Saree.com before 🙁

Some of my favourites from the site are:

1. Pink And Dark Cream Net Lehenga Saree With Stone Work

This costs Rs.2995/-! Beat that. Looks so pretty, love the colour combination and the work.

2. Cream Net Gown

Love love the gold and red embroidery and the mesh at the waist and back. Of course the long layered tulle on the lower half too.

3. Pink Net Lehenga Choli With Zari Work

This costs just Rs.2395/-, unbelievable right! Also you can get it stitched the way you want, a shorter choli if you want to show your lehenga or like a longer salwar which is quite IN these days.

4. Yellow,Beige and Pink Bemberg Saree With Embroidery Work

Ok, I love yellow in ethnic wear and especially yellow and pink combination. I think it looks fabulous, and this saree is a perfect blend of colors and the embroidery work on it looks really pretty.

Aren’t these pieces amazing, and there are many many more. You will be spoilt for choice 😀 Absolutely loved the collection on saree.com and definitely shopping here the next time I need to buy ethnic wear. Highly recommended.

Also, I have a special coupon code for you guys which will let you avail INR 500 off on your cart value above 500. Its ‘SPCL500’ valid over next 30 days.

Have you checked out Saree.com yet? Which one is your favourite?
