Vee: Girls on the go, boys take a backseat
A selfie of an obnoxiously weird 30 something man wearing a bright red shirt with denims comes up on Shruti’s phone. He got dumped with a cancel button within a split of a second. My best friend is on “Vee”, a smartphone speed dating app which has crossed 150,000 downloads within few months and is a rage amongst my friends.
I have happily coupled up, so now my favourite pastime is helping my single girlfriends swipe through the reams of desirable, and not so desirable, potential dates. I cannot escape it. It is addictive.
It goes like this; No; No; No; Yes; Yes to him too; No; Yes :p
Our group of girls has started digesting a lot of profiles on night outs, get-togethers and every moment of free time out there. Oh, the feeling of having multiple admirers out there. 🙂
It is also quite an entertainer. There was this one guy who described himself as, “75% Narendra Modi and 25% Arvind Kejriwal.” God only knows what that means. Another one said “I am not here to be changed, don’t bother to change me.” We didn’t.
How does it work?
It is simple.
Vee narrows down on registered users of the opposite s*x in your vicinity using your GPS location. You login with your Facebook profile, and start swiping. Then starts the addictive phase of ACCEPT/REJECT.
If both of you ACCEPT/LIKE each other (One thing about this app is, It’s not meant for average looking guys. They don’t stand a chance because it is actually a game of gratification of the best looking males, who will get responses and who will be spoilt for choice), then you start chatting.
It has a great chat interface, similar to that of common mobile chatting apps.
Safety
The primary requirement of a dating app in India would be only one: Make it safe for girls to be on it without being stalked or harassed. Vee fulfils this critical requirement. How?
a) You can choose to be invisible. So, guys can only see your profile if you have liked/accepted theirs.
b) Even after liking their profile, you can choose to hide information about yourself from others
c) If you unlike/break-up with a guy, all your chats and chat history will disappear from both the phones leaving absolutely no trace of your chats.
d) For reviewing this app, I tried taking screenshots of the app. Best part is, I couldn’t, even after installing special screenshot taking apps. This convinced me that no-one can blackmail me over my chats.
Conclusion
Vee is an app for anyone intent on finding a casual date, which might become their special someone, without first seeking the approval of the parents and a long line of relatives as well as friends.
