HIBISCUS

Hibiscus Handbags was conceptualized in December 2008 by Sulbha Dalvi, a JJ School of Arts graduate. Leather has always fascinated Sulbha since her Art School days and it was only a logical progression.

Why Hibiscus?

Since childhood Hibiscus flower has always been a fascination. The name was also unique. In fact while brainstorming we discussed if apple can be computers then Hibiscus can also be leather handbags, more so since it’s targeted to young women.

Practical was boring

Not so long ago, working women wore professional suited clothes to work. And complemented them with Black or/and Brown leather handbags. Leather connoted their need for a durable and long lasting utility aid. And the clothes she wore were no different; perfectly serious for work.

Partying or weekend get-togethers got out her trendy, designer clothes, with vibrant colours that depicted her individuality and character. And also came out the bags in various shapes, sizes and colours. Bags made of different material. Artificial leather, Fabric, Jute, etc.

Longer work days, heavier commute…can’t we just

go straight from work to play?

With changing times the style of work has changed. Long hours and tiring work has prompted woman to wear clothes that can double as work and play. Thus work wear changed. Serious kurtas have become tops and denim, skirts, minis and even fashionable sarees. Similarly the necessity to accessorize the same has given rise to the need for something more trendy, yet classy. A leading brand (the competition) saw the opportunity and launched exclusively designed leather handbags in then existing black, browns and tan colour leather. Few women also shifted the trendy weekend bags to weekday. There was no leather bag that was as playful as her new clothes depicting her new-found style. Colours that could project her moods and reflect her personality.

Hibiscus brand philosophy is ‘Practical need not be boring’

Hibiscus would complement today’s women work wear with some colourful yet elegantly designed handbags made of genuine leather. At the same time it would supplement her already carefree weekends by some really daring designs. A point to make it that both the work & play would still have the functionality and convenience she desires from an accompaniment.

Designing & Manufacturing

Hibiscus has a workshop of its own with specialty sewing machines and master craftsmen. The designing is done by Sulbha herself and she supervises the manufacturing process of the bags too, which ensures that finish of the bags is maintained. Workshop is in Bandra (E)

Wide Range:

Today Hibiscus has a wide range of leather handbags & accessories from handbags, sling bags and clutches. Recently the new design HibiscusBlue was unveiled. HibiscusBlue is a collection of sling bags created by fusion of denim with genuine leather.

They have their warehouse at Bandra (E) near MIG club..and they are open on Sundays too..if you would like to personally check the bags instead of shopping online..you can always drop in there..

They have some pretty nice bags..I loved their collection..not the funky types..but the stuff we can use anytime anywhere..

I got this brown worn effect sling bag..I pair it with mostly all my casuals..there is a separate chain section for the cell and 1 more compartment inside.. and also in the front..and back with the zip ..loving it these days…
